Lost my character sheet... and now?

What happens if I lose my char sheet? I can retrieve race/class/level and items online, but my stats, trained skills, power choice are nowhere on the RPGA site.

Can I just "remake" my character sheet, keeping true to the info that can be retrieved?

Or do I have to create a new (level 1...) character?

You may re-create based on the information you believe to be correct.

Perhaps some foresight is needed here. Try keeping more than one copy of your character information, perhaps even an online version of this.

Yes. More than ever before, the RPGA operates on an honour system. It is more-or-less official policy to give players the benefit of the doubt. Recreate that missing character as best you can, and it's all golden.

Actually, as far as character sheets go, it's ALWAYS been on an honor system.

None of the Living campaigns have ever tracked character build info, at least not for the purposes of keeping people honest.

A couple of campaigns had some stat tracking, but this was more to chart what trends were happening in the character pool, not for enforcement of any kind.

So, pretty much, from the beginning, if you lost your character sheet, it's always been up to you to be honest and re-create the character as best you can the same way it was before.

I think it'd be neat to one day incorporate the DDI character builder into LFR. Lots of neat benefits there - it'd be neat to see what percent of characters take what feats when it matters. It'd also be nice to be able to show up to an event and have the ability to quick get your character even if you weren't planning on playing.

But for now, just try to be true to what you think to be right.

My dream would be to be able to simply upload my Character Builder file and have that somehow verified/legalized/certified in the RPGA database.

Then again, since the CB lets us make our own LFR legal characters (though it helps to check the LFR FAQ from Dragon9 to know what changes must be made each month), I don't think it's really necessary.

I think this is close to a thread I am curious about. I did glance over, but can't find an exact, and I've rummaged through various FAQ's, and see nothing.

I previously ONLY played RPGA at Gencon. I'd tuck my character away and pull it back out the next year. Well, I signed up for Gencon events again, and have gotten a bit more excited, going to try running some stuff.

My question is, I'd never really bothered entering anything into the database. So when I went and entered the character I'd used for the mods during 2008 Gencon, none of the adventures show under her name, though she is my only character, and default. Does that mean none of the things she got, and mods she was in, count?

And does this mean, since I plan on DM'ing, that I should make sure my players enter their characters, _before_ I go to sanction an event and the like?

Or is the stuff in the website just for sanity's sake and my character sheet is what really counts? (I still have the handouts and judges' notes and such).

I found my character--under the private play tab. Which is strange, since I have only ever played RPGA at GenCon.

That can be helpful, but if they're just starting out, when you report, the system will let you "create" their default (i.e., first) characters in the database.

Exactly so. Your character sheet (and, more importantly, your adventure log) are your primary records for your character. If they don't jibe with what's on the online database, your paper logs take precedence.

I found my character--under the private play tab. Which is strange, since I have only ever played RPGA at GenCon.

Much squirreliness has happened recently to the database, as they've been incorporating RPGA play into the Wizards Play Network.

Another idea is to be a DDI subscriber and use the character builder. You can print your PC out every time you go to game so it doesn't matter if you lose it.

Unless your hard drive crashes and you don't back up. I have paper notes and characters from the 1970s, I have nothing from a game I was running in 2000 as that PC died and I couldn't recover anything. Don't forget to back up your hard drive.

I recommend Carbonite for backup (if you'd like a free trial let me know) OR - if you have multiple computers with the Builder installed, Microsoft Live Mesh is great for keeping all of your characters in sync (and therefore backed up) between multiple computers.

A RAID 0 setup is useful as well. Hard Drive mirroring is a wonderful thing. (I have my media PC with all my movie rips on it as a RAID 1+0 striped mirror, so i don't have to worry about crashes... just replace the drive and it rebuilds... :D)

But yeah, back ups are somethign everyoen does. My experience as a computer tech is that hardly anyoen does. I have had to tell a lot of people "Did you backup your data? No? Sorry, but you lost everything."

RAID0? That's for performance, not redundancy. (Wikipedia)

Now quit talking tech, and update your LFR FAQ for the new CB update. ;)

Bah... yes, I always get them mixed up... sigh... RAID 1. (0+1 is even better!)

I'm workign on it! I'm unemployed but I have so much on my plate (Getting the PHB2 power cards done, transferring DVDs to my media PC, yard work, gardening, cleanign the house, oh yeah, and finding time to update the FAQ for the CB LFR campaign file) I'm fallign behindon everything...

I didn't ask about your problems! I told you to get it done!

Nah, no worries. For what it's worth, the rulesets are a lot closer to right this month - from my passing view.

Fine! It's done! I was gonna call you massa but I figured I would catch too much grief for that.

The only thing I found wrong was you had to uncheck the Eberron player's guide. One could argue about unchecking everything but the Deities in the FRCG as well as it isn't normally a player resource, but much of that is stuff available from the Barrow Adventure.
