| #1nicodemus_dupSep 11, 2008 10:22:43 | Since I finaly got DCI/RPGA cards to assign to new members, I was wondering I have to wait until there's an event, or if I can give them earliers so they can already register on the website for Rewards? |

Unfortunately there's no way for them to signup until their numbers are active. That means waiting for the cards to be mailed in and registered by WotC - IE 3-4 weeks, or reporting a completed event with those numbers. |
| #3pedrSep 11, 2008 10:46:07 | Although if you have cards with a scratch off authorisation code, I'd be very interested to know whether a card's authorisation code works before the first event it is used at - if it does it would make reporting LFR a lot easier as at the moment there is no way to correctly report a single event where a new player played two different characters in LFR (as far as I can tell). The way to log in with an authorisation code is via the 'Forgot password?' link on the RPGA sign-in screen. If you have a player willing to be a guinea pig, the results of your experiment would be very useful to know about! |

| #5nicodemus_dupSep 11, 2008 13:33:46 | I just registered my girlfriend using a card with a scratch off activation code. I had to surf to http://www.thedci.com/activate and go through a wizard: enter your new dci number > enter your activiation code > enter your country and date of birth > enter your e-mail address. Seconds later there was already an e-mail in her mailbox to confirm the membership and with her initial password for logging onto the wizards website. At this point it was only a DCI membership. I went to the RPGA D&D rewards webpage and could register her for D&D rewards immediately. Seconds later another e-mail was in her mailbox to confirm her D&D rewards activation. When I signed in on the RPGA page, her D&D rewards option was available. |
| #6darkschneiderbaSep 11, 2008 13:51:53 | The scratch-off activation code cards can definitely 100% be used before any event is reported with them. Until recently they were all I had access to for signing up new members and every one of my players had logged in in advance to set up their accounts. |
| #7pedrSep 11, 2008 14:01:42 | Wonderful. The next question - hoping you don't mind all this work I'm getting you to do! - is whether she has a "My Characters" link in the menu, i.e. can she set up an LFR character? Getting solid data is good - I'm hoping the UK DCI will send me some cards with activation codes soon! |
| #8nicodemus_dupSep 11, 2008 14:06:27 | There's no My characters link in the menu. But neither is there for me when I log in. I thought I had read on the boards already that you do not get a my characters link until your dm has reported the event you played in. |
| #9pedrSep 11, 2008 14:15:03 | OK, thanks! That's clearly still a rather major bug, as it still means that no-one can add an LFR character until after they've played their first event. It might be interesting to see what happens once you've reported a (non-LFR) event - perhaps the link will appear then. |

You can also request inclusion in the D&D RPGA Player group by e-mailing the Wizards Play Network (dci@wizards.com) |
| #11nicodemus_dupSep 11, 2008 14:21:07 | You can also request inclusion in the D&D RPGA Player group by e-mailing the Wizards Play Network (dci@wizards.com) I just send an e-mail. Let's hope it works. |
| #12nicodemus_dupSep 11, 2008 14:33:49 | I just send an e-mail. Let's hope it works. I immediately received an email from dci@wizards.com saying I should contact customer service. I registered on that page (I cannot believe how many times one has to register for something wizards-related !!!) but that specific question is not in the knowledge base. I hope that I will receive an email (eventually) with a response but the answer I got from the knowledge base is ambigius at best (as if I had to redo the question so it would generate a better response yet it also mentioned it could take a while before receiving an answer). |
| #13pedrSep 11, 2008 14:42:31 | I've not contacted dci@wizards.com, but their auto reply message is somewhat... offputting, it seems. I think that they do read all messages, and either they or the custhelp people can get the database updated. |
| #14nicodemus_dupSep 11, 2008 14:44:39 | Personally, I rather have the 'offputting' mail immediately than silence for days/weeks until you receive an answer. |
| #15siliconroseSep 11, 2008 15:35:27 | It depends on whether the offputting mail is relevant or irrelevant. It looks like an auto-reply, which I usually disregard in terms of communication. It doesn't show that anyone has looked at your mail and determined whether or not it is a question they will answer. In my case, I haven't gotten a response in a few days. What does that mean? Does it mean that my question isn't something they handle, and thus they're not going to answer it? Or does it mean that they're just behind, and might not get to me until next week (or month ^^)? I'm going to give it awhile longer, like a week or two, until I resend a message or try another place, but I could be wasting my time. (Technically speaking, the auto-reply said I should direct my question elsewhere, but I've been told it's wrong.) The only thing an auto-reply shows you, as the customer, is that your mail reached their mail system. That's useful in determining the chance of an answer, but not sufficient. |
| #16nicodemus_dupSep 11, 2008 15:46:01 | I just received an e-mail that the necessary action has been taken. I logged in and the My characters link is available! Talking about customer service, this is realy it !!! |
| #17KeithricSep 14, 2008 17:35:49 | How do I get cards for RPGA membership? I've got several people who might join for LFR, but aren't likely to get to a convention any time soon. I sanction events occasionally, I can swing down to a local game store to pick some up that way, but... Being able to just put in to have some mailed would be nice. |
| #18pedrSep 14, 2008 18:04:43 | Email dci@wizards.com (or the local DCI office, if you're outside the US - details on the DCI webpages). You might get a disconcerting/unhelpful automatic email back, but they should respond to your request. You might want to ask specifically for DCI cards, as I have a suspicion that they have the useful activation codes which allow them to be used quickly, whereas RPGA cards might not get into the system properly until the card physically gets to WotC and some data-entry person processes it. |
| #19kinevonSep 15, 2008 8:49:43 | Some information you will need to include: RPGA or DCI number Quantity of cards (they are setup as pads of 25) Name Mailing address Not sure if they need anything else, or if I included that information as part of my default stuff. |
| #20telvin3dSep 16, 2008 14:32:54 | You can also request inclusion in the D&D RPGA Player group by e-mailing the Wizards Play Network (dci@wizards.com) I just tried this. and the response I got was I am sorry you received incorrect information about this; we can't resolve this issue for you. Please use the Wizards Knowledge Base for information on resolving this issue: http://www.wizards.com/customerservice I just got back into D&D a couple weeks ago after a break of a couple years with a LFR game at my FLGS. The DM hasn't submitted yet because of issues regarding another player, and so I have yet to be able to register my character. |
| #21WolfStar76Sep 16, 2008 14:45:39 | I just tried this. and the response I got was Hmmm. That's the first time anyone's mentioned another process to me, however I can't say I'm entirely surprised. With the RPGA/DCI merge, it makes sense that they'd have handeled the original deluge of issues any way they could and now want to move people into a system that's easier to track. I'll make a note of it for future reference. The good news is, unless you have more than one LFR character that you've been using for adventures, your GM should be able to report your module for you just fine. The module will be credited to your default character (#1) and that might even trigger you being in the D&D Player group from there out. The problem arises if you want something to be credited to character 2+ and haven't been able to create them yet. |
| #22nicodemus_dupSep 16, 2008 14:47:54 | Send a message to customer service through the knowledge base application. They will resolve this for you in no time. They did for me. |
| #23fiupntballrSep 16, 2008 16:06:38 | I recently ran a game for 4 of my friends that had never played D&D and got them to go through a couple of modules. Since they did not have RPGA cards I was able to get them DCI cards. The first one for my GF I had her enter her information and enter a character for the other I left it up to them. After the games were done I went in and reported the event. Everything came up under my GF and my friends accounts seamlessly. Under My GFs name her stuff was attributed to her character. My other friends that had not entered anything had Default player listed as slot 1 where they could actually go in and edit the name. Gold tallys and adventure XP were correct. So if the question is to get a new member in.. Just use the DCI cards. The talk about having to preregister them is bogus. It can work either way. Now the topic of multiple characters is something I can not comment on as I havent messed with that yet. PS by getting reported as playing in an LFR event you are automatically placed into the D&D group. |
