| #1lord_bruteMay 03, 2009 15:49:01 | Greetings, As we all know there is a small issue with PC tracking under the new change, that is PC's in the D&D WPN (Dungeon & Dragon's Wizard Play Network) tab do not show up.. however we still need to report the events when they are played.. My simple suggestion is.. "Please ask your players to go into the WPM tab and add there pc's name to the number" just like the did when we only had the one option... have them do it for the WPN tab and HOPEFULLY when they get the data base to Merge it will do just that... I also sent a request in asking what to do at this time as I have an event to submit and later this month I am part of a convention called 'Ancon 2009' where we will have a ton of events to submit.. *smiles* So in the end ... my suggestion.. please ask your players to log in and add there PC names to the WPN tab.. it should not be to hard and I think needs to be done at this time.. Thank You Roger 'Brute' GGG :lightbulb 4100155890 sirbrute@gmail.com |

The problem I have with this is forcing my opinion on players. Until I hear from WPN as to what they should do I'm not telling them nothing. I will just report public events as private events. If you just assume the merge will merge the same characters into one file I bet its wrong. I think what players will end up with is: Felix1(private), Felix2(public) files in the same menu. If they go in and add the player to the public files they could even end up with: Felix1(private), Felix2(public), Felix3(public). Just report it all as private and no harm done. |
| #3Fundin_StrongarmMay 04, 2009 11:28:17 | Greetings, I've done this with my own characters and will probably ask my players to do this as well. It makes it easier for reporting the public games which is my preferred method of reporting. I figure online character tracking is a write-off at this point anyways so getting the WPN vs Private Play "thing" right is more important. IMO. ![]() |

At this time I know the system is far from perfect and needs a lot of work.. the idea behind WPN events is for players to be able to go online and see that a store is running an event .. or there is a convention etc.. Private Play is just that not open to the public and just a bunch of people getting together and playing. NOW since a lot of my events take place at local stores and we do our best to support them and want to bring in more 'customers' and keep these stores up and running you need to submit the event as a WPN event.. thus you need to work with the system... When the original PC data base went up I had problems and still am having problems as a few of my events either never where submitted or submitted wrong thus I use my papers to keep track and just do my best with the web.. NOW taking all this into account all my suggestion does is have the players go to the WPN section and add the pc names there that they could have or should have done back before we had the two ... *laughs* oh yeah... I wish I could do more ... but all I can do is my best to suggest ways of working with what we have.. I have given my players ONE week to follow my suggestion if after that they do not I plan on still submitting my game and hope that it does not mess up there PC tracking... I also plan on requesting my events at the store that are run in PUBLIC using the WPN method.. Now what I am NOT looking forward to is later this month I am helping run the LFR aspect of a convention called Ancon 2009... *grins and shakes head* think of what this is going to mean as we want to submit the events that are played as they occur and finish up... CHAOS .... but I am hoping to be able to log in and work with people one on one and add for them there PC's so they show up both at the PP 'Priate Play' option and the WPN 'World Play Network' option.. *sighs* anyway... this will only be an option and if players do not wish the help then we will just submit as is... and cross our fingers... | #7festivusMay 04, 2009 21:28:05 | I have been telling them I am holding off on reporting them period until it's fixed or we get instruction otherwise. |
| #8lord_bruteMay 05, 2009 7:41:52 | I have been telling them I am holding off on reporting them period until it's fixed or we get instruction otherwise. Okay I have said this a number of times and I do not know how 'closely' they follow this ruling but this is right from the Wizards Community Site under the RPGA downloads RPGA General rule #6 (see below) Now unless the say something official like 'we are working on fixiing this thus please hold off on reporting events' events ran can be invalidated if not submited in a timely manner.. I do now know how closely they follow rule #6 but I for wait normaly only ONE week max then get my events in. I do know that certain 'conventions' have been granted more freedom because entering all the events takes a ton of time.. but Private Play & or WPN Games could fall under said rule and if Wizards wanted to they could inact it as this has been in play for a long long time. Just a friendly FYI ~ I tell this to all my judges .. that is people who I judge with and work with. Roger 'Brute' GGG http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/hq/genrulestext 6. EVENT-REPORTING RULES Receiving event reports in a correct and timely manner is fundamental to accurate and up-to-date RPGA records. Senior GMs must follow the rules outlined in this section when reporting their events. Event Report Deadline Event reports are due to the RPGA within eight (8) days of an event's conclusion. Event reports not received by the RPGA within eight (8) days are considered late. Late home play events are automatically invalidated by the RPGA Event Database. Other late events (game days and conventions) are listed in the RPGA database as "Not Received". GMs, of all levels, with unreported or late events may lose the privilege of sanctioning future events. Invalid Events Players' results at events or sessions that become invalid do not count toward their RPGA records or D&D Player Rewards. The RPGA reserves the right to invalidate reported results of any RPGA-sanctioned event or session for any reason, but will usually do so only when fraudulent or incorrect and irreparable results are reported by the organizer or Senior GM. Additionally, the RPGA reserves the right to invalidate any RPGA sanctioned event that is not received within eight (8) days of the RPGA sanctioned event date. ©2003 Wizards of the Coast, Inc. | #9telvin3dMay 05, 2009 11:32:01 | Now unless the say something official like 'we are working on fixiing this thus please hold off on reporting events' events ran can be invalidated if not submited in a timely manner.. There's a very easy solution to this. Just don't sanction the games. I've got copies of everything already so instead of fighting the system I'm just keeping all the tracking sheets until the get the system fixed. Then I'll report them all at once as an epic gameday or perhaps a convention. I know the RPGA tracks sanctioning/reporting statistics closely. I'd be incredibly curious what the graph looks like before and after they started mucking with the system. |
| #10festivusMay 05, 2009 21:17:02 | They realy need to fix this. At the moment I cannot report the events, so I don't feel it's my fault that they are late. I don't want to do double data entry, and my events are all WPN events so tha tmeans that, at the moment, the solution is to cancel the WPN event and resanction at home game and then report... it will take me a couple nights to do this as we ran some 15 tables worth of LFR. Other option, stop sanctioning until the problem is fixed, just report things as home games after the fact. This means my games won't show on the WoTC home page search thingy, not sure how much draw that gives us, but would certainly get the right characters reported and no double entry. I just hope they don't come to us later and say "You need to reenter all your back data" |
| #11WolfStar76May 06, 2009 10:15:13 | I've had it put through very official channels, and I know it's being worked on. What the plans are, when they will be implemented, etc - I do not know. I'm also trying to get someone official from the WPN to poke their heads in and give us a heads up if at all possible. Since we're still left in a lurch without answers and without a solution in sight, I'll keep sending this up the chain as often as I can. ![]() |
| #12tirianmalMay 07, 2009 13:11:14 | I do now know how closely they follow rule #6 but I for wait normaly only ONE week max then get my events in. I know for a fact that 1) the automatic invalidation doesn't happen (I have an open "home" event that is well over a month late (Spellgard, we love you) and it hasn't been closed. and 2) even convention reporting that is late (a month or more after the event) hasn't been a problem ... as far as I can recall ... ever. Or else everyone (Gencon, DDXP, local conventions, etc) would have been in trouble long ago. I personally try to report events for conventions as quickly as possible, but I don't think I've ever reported a convention faster than a month later. With the new system, entering the data alone takes many nights, much less dealing with incomplete forms, emailing WotC to make corrections, etc. So, no, I don't think anyone really needs to get on the ball. And if WotC/RPGA started being this draconian ... gods/FSM/devils help them. ![]() |

When can we get an unofficial date to get an official date, as to when we can get an official answer, to the official problem? Also has there been progress made but just not announced officially? |
