| #1fissionessenceNov 28, 2008 3:06:16 | I've looked all over the place and I can't find answers to a couple of questions . . . all the info seems really scattered and inconclusive. Anyway, I appreciate any help anyone has. 1) At least two of my players don't have RPGA or DCI numbers or anything. Do they have to sign up on the website, or can I sign them up somehow? 2) Do the players have to do anything on the website in order to set up their character, or do I do that part for them in addition to tracking gold, xp, etc? 3) Under 'treasure', the adventures say "Each PC receives treasure in the form of gold pieces as well as one share from a treasure bundle." However, it doesn't say anything about how many gold pieces they get. 4) "If a player selects an option that gives their character more gold, add that to the gold all characters receive . . . " This part really just doesn't make sense to me. So if someone chooses 'More Gold' under 'Non-Bundle Options', then that much gold goes to every player and not just the one who chose it? Then what about the 'Potion plus Gold' option? 5) I'm not sure I understand the access slots of the advancement tracker. Players aren't allowed to use magic items from the Adventurer's Vault by default, but since AV is a player resource, a player could write items from AV into his access slots to gain access to them via purchase, as long as the item isn't a higher level than the character. Is that right? What's the point of restricting magic items from AV, then, if players can get to any item they want anyway? Thanks again for any help. I'll post again if I have any more questions ![]() ~ |
| #2ibixatNov 28, 2008 4:05:13 | 1) They will need numbers, you can maybe get cards from a game store, or something to get them signed up, I'll let someone else answer this one better 2) I'm not sure again, they CAN setup their character first and it would be recomended or the reporting may be messed up as to which character it's assigned to. 3) the gold IS listed, it's usually 75 gold for 1-4 modules, it really is listed there somewhere though. Which mod are you referring to I'll find the page and line for you 4) Only that player gets additional gold. Lets say the gold is 75 and they take the more gold option which is 50, they get 125, everyone else still gets 50 and their pick, lets say you play it high tier and the base gold is 100 and the more gold is 75, the potion and gold is probably potion +25g so they would get 125g and a potion etc. 5) Access slots are gone, AV is a player resource and everything in it is allowed now I believe, make sure you are using the 1.7 CCG and not 1.6 anymore. |
| #3kinevonNov 28, 2008 4:12:14 | 1) They can sign up on the RPGA website, there is a link in the FAQ. Or you can give them RPGA (10 digit only) or DCI membership cards. 2) Yes, once they have an active number, they will need to go in and setup all their LFR characters. There can be reporting issues f they try to play a PC whose number does not yet exist on their character list. 3) At the end of the adventure, there is usually a place where it shows a number of GP, usually listed as XX/XX. The first number is for playing the module at low-tier, the second is for playing at high-tier. 4) No, it is just a weakness in the language. Every character gets X gold. If a character chooses the More Gold option, only that character gets the extra gold. 5) Look for the first link on the character creation page, that is the correct link to get the 1.7 version of the character creation guide. It changes a bunch of things, but all the changes are highlighted in red for easy notice. As mentioned magic items from Dragon and AV are now open, so the only thing needed to buy an item is being of the same (or higher) level, and having enough gold. |
| #4fissionessenceNov 28, 2008 14:51:16 | 1) Okay, thanks, guys ![]() 2) Alright, well I went in to set up an RPGA character for myself to see how it works and I can't find any link anywhere that suggests I can put such a character wrong. I've been looking around at webapp.wizards.com/personal.aspx where it shows you your DCI/RPGA card; should I be looking somewhere else? 3) Okay I found the gold line; thanks! 4) Yeah, that all makes sense; the sentence just seems to suggest something completely different. I'll just ignore that sentence ![]() 5) Okay, I got version 1.7; thanks. It's weird, because at some point I had that version, then when I was reading stuff over last night I somehow had 1.6 again. I looked for an updated version, but the one I downloaded from the wizards site was still 1.6. I followed the first link on the character creation, page, though, so I've got it. So now I just need help with part (2) Thanks again!~ |
| #5jeffvNov 28, 2008 16:13:38 | 2) The process works like this. When you (the DM) report the event, you enter each of your players' RPGA (or DCI) numbers. Each player will then have a list of their characters pop up next to their name. If they've gone in and set up their characters ahead of time (as you apparently have now), then the character names and numbers will appear on that list, along with an option for you to put in a new character for them if they're using something they haven't entered yet. If they're playing with an established character, easy - you just pick that character out of the lineup, and report it like that. If they haven't, then the only option you'll have will be to put a new character in for them, and you'll have to do so. What Kinevon's saying is that if they haven't set up their character previously and you have to enter it from the reporting end, things can get odd. Typical problem scenarios are where you're doing multiple sessions at the same event (at which point they'll have a new character each time you pick the "New Character" option) or where your players are playing under multiple DMs (all of whom may be reporting new characters for the players at the same time). It's also entirely possible that the database will decide to hiccup at roughly the time you're reporting your event, thus messing things up whether you entered it right or not. Good times... good times. ![]() |
| #6kinevonNov 28, 2008 16:13:54 | The link to create characters is called My Characters, and should be in the link list on the right after you sign in to the RPGA membership area. That is, indeed, the page with the graphic showing your RPGA/DCI card. On the right: My Links Home Personal Info Change Password My Events My Play Statistics My Play History My Characters My Rewards Event Sanctioning Event Reporting Downloads Appeal Form Judge Center Note that the actual link list can be different for different people. I bolded the correct link. If you, or your players, don't have that link, you should contact dci@wizards.com, and they should be able to activate it for you. It should also auto-activate after your first LFR game as a player, but you could wind up with multiple PCs as a result, if you played multiple sessions. Also, on the left, you should see a list of Current Memberships, the one you want to see is bolded below: Current Memberships Type Level Axis and Allies Miniatures - Coordinator Gateway D&D Miniatures - Coordinator Gateway Magic - Coordinator Gateway MapleStory - Coordinator Gateway RPGA D&D - Player Active RPGA D&D - GM Master Card RPGA D&D - Rewards Program Active Card Star Wars Miniatures - Coordinator Gateway Hope that helps! |

Typical problem scenarios are where you're doing multiple sessions at the same event (at which point they'll have a new character each time you pick the "New Character" option) or where your players are playing under multiple DMs (all of whom may be reporting new characters for the players at the same time). Pretty much. Reporting Weekend in the Realms could get ugly. Even after I badgered my players to create all the PCs they played, I still wound up having to use option "0 - New PC" too much. And I had only a single session set to enter! For instance, if you are planning on running AGLA1-1 and ADAP1-1 on the same day, or in the same ordered session, and your players haven't entered their PCs before you start to report, you can wind up having to report what amounts to 2 separate PCs for the 2 sessions, even though it is the same PC. Ugly to fix.I just submitted an appeal because both the game store (location) and the GM entered the results for the set of WitR modules I played with my fighter, so he wound up with the same set of three modules reported on him twice. And I am still missing 3 LFR games from 3 different PCs, 2 from September, and one from the end of October. But I am fairly sure that is a local GM reporting issue. That, and I am fairly sure that some LG games have still not been reported, or were reported wrong, but we don't get that level of detail anymore for general play history. ![]() |
| #8sdrowsfognikNov 28, 2008 16:36:28 | Incase you're still having trouble putting in characters: For a lot of people, myself included, the My Characters link doesn't show up in the My Links box all the time. One thing I've figured out is a pretty simple solution to bludgeon your way in. Go up to address in your browser after you've logged into the RPGA site and change the end of the address "/personal.aspx" to "/mycharacters.aspx" ... It's inelegant but it works. Then you can just select the D&D and then LFR links as normal, and add a character. After you've done that and put in at least one character, you should actually see the "My Characters" in your link box from that point. |
| #9fissionessenceNov 28, 2008 20:15:12 | Wow! All of this info you guys are posting is great; most of it really should be included on the RPGA instruction sites. Stuff like how to report events and set up characters really seems like info people should have easy access to instead of having to try to figure it out or beg for help ![]() Anyway, the 'My Characters' link wasn't showing up for me, which was why I couldn't figure it out. I used sdrowsfognik's bludgeoning method with the /mycharacters.aspx link, and it worked great. I'll make sure all of my players have accounts set up with characters before I go to report anything in order to avoid any of the confusion you guys have brought up. Thanks again, and I should be fine now! ~ |
