Hi Folks

I completed my first LFR home game the other week and have reported it and I am due to run my second one this coming week.

Now the group have questions about magic items limits/sale/upgrades etc.

I get that you can only have "found" magic items equal to your level and have to be careful in your choices. Also that you can only use/sell an magic item if you are within 4 levels of it's level and only buy/create an item of your level or lower.

If a player wants to upgrade an item (+1 Hide for instance) to have an additional quality (bloodcut at 4th level), do they have to find a player to do the job or is it assumed in LFR that the work can be done by an NPC?

So for instance would the following be okay?

1st Level: Select lvl 6 item worth 1800 Gp as reward

2nd Level: Sell item and obtain 360 Gold for it , buy +1 Hide (bought items aren't "found", correct?)

4th Level: +1 Hide upgraded to +1 Bloodcut Hide with a component cost of 480 Gold (and perhaps a ritual cost of 175 Gold for Enchant Magic Item?)

I think that example will cover most of their queries at the moment Wink

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

K

The EMI ritual's expanded rules allow taking a vanilla magic item and upgrading it with a property.  To do so you pay the difference in cost between the two items.  The rules for this are in the Adventurer's Vault 1.

To do this you do one of two things: Purchase an EMI ritual scroll (you have to be 5th level) and do it yourself.  Or pay an NPC to do it which is 120% of the ritual cost.  (rules for that are in the CCG)

Thanks for the response.

The line that had us scratching our head was

You can, however, cast rituals (including Enchant Item or Transfer Enchantment) for a another player’s character if that character can provide your character with the ritual scroll and pay for the cost of the casting.

So another player can use a scroll for you (no doubt used to twink when you are 4th level and join a 4-7 party and the 7th level barbarian upgrades the wizards staff ). Yet another player cannot use a ritual they have mastered, so a 7th level wizard with the ritual in his book cannot freely use his ritual for a 4th level barbarian in his group?

I'll leave it and likely they will just look at NPC use.

Thanks again for the assistance.
