Customize Your LFR Game With My Realms Adventures!

In response to overwhelming demand, we’ve now launched the first of what will be several create-your-own Living Forgotten Realms adventures! Known as My Realms adventures, they are designed to allow a DM to create their own custom LFR adventure that they can run for their group. Want to give your group some action while traveling from the Dalelands to the Moonshae Isles? Have an unresolved storyline from a previously played adventure? Does a PC want to go on a special quest to deal with a deep dark secret in their past? My Realms adventures are the answer!

Organizers can simply download the adventure packet, which contains all the information necessary on adventure creation. LFR characters earn XP and treasure for playing them, just like regular campaign adventures. The first adventure packet, MYRE1-1, covers play for levels 1-4. Subsequent My Realms adventure packets will cover higher-level play. Each packet even includes regional hooks and some monsters to help give you adventure ideas!

Please note that the adventures you create for My Realms adventures are not to be distributed to others – they are for the DM-creator and tables they personally run to enjoy. See the My Realms adventure packet for more information.

MYRE1-1 is available on June 4, 2009 through the DCI/RPGA adventure ordering system, and can be ordered for both WPN and private play.

Being a programmer I tend to look at something and see how I can work around it and do something that wasn't intended. Its pretty much automatic and I just can't help it these days.

What is to stop me from writing a MYRE adventure and getting my players to play high tier simply so I can throw more encounters at them?

For example, let's say low-tier I can run 3 encounters of a particular level. If my players play high I could add in an extra 2 encounters without increasing the difficulty of the earlier encounters.

I'm guessing that would be unacceptable, but I thought I'd check.

If you read the document, you'll see that it's not recommended, largely because (a) it's not necessarily challenging to the players, and (b) it'd make the adventure take longer than the 4-hour slot it's intended for.

Is there anything preventing you from doing it? No.

Common sense? ;)

We've been told that the same PCs can play MYRE1-1 multiple times (even from the same author), so long as they're different adventures. This means that if you just want to run more encounters, you can simply write two separate MyRealms adventures and run them back-to-back.

If you read the document

Which I did. I must have overlooked that sentence.

I'm not sure how that logic works. Assuming you're designing a low-tier game anyway, adding in an extra encounter isn't going to make the pre-existing encounters easier.

This means that if you just want to run more encounters, you can simply write two separate MyRealms adventures and run them back-to-back.

If you've got an adventure that can last for 8 hours, got nuts. Not so useful for an adventure that lasts 5 hours though.

It was only a question. Sheeesh.

Nothing says that you have to use the entire XP budget; you'll run into the occasional LFR adventure where they haven't, so there does not appear to be a rule that you have to max out the XP. (That does leave a loophole of giving out max gold but not max XP, which needs to be fixed before we start getting to the level bands of meaningful gold.)

If you only wanted to spend 200 xp of your budget (perhaps to create an intro adventure for L1 PCs, a short adventure that didn't require that many encounters or an epilogue to a previous adventure), that would appear to be fine.
