Hot off the presses:

Living Forgotten Realms Reporting Update

As of Friday, June 5, organizers are no longer able to report character-specific information from Living Forgotten Realms adventures. Players are now completely responsible for tracking their character’s XP, gold, and magic item bundles earned from play of Living Forgotten Realms adventures. DMs running individual tables do not have to fill in any character-specific information on their tracking forms (although they should still enter adventure questions).

When an organizer reports a Living Forgotten Realms adventure, they now need only enter the DM’s DCI/RPGA number, the players’ DCI/RPGA numbers, and answer the adventure questions related to the adventure. New tracking forms for all the adventures are being generated, and should be added to existing adventure files soon.

Players have 3 options with which to track their characters’ rewards:

  • Use a paper adventure logsheet. One version is available in the RPGA Character Creation Guide.
  • Use the D&D Character Builder’s Journal entry function (accessible through the “Manage” tab). Simply click on “Add Entry” to create a new adventure entry. To get the full version of the D&D Character Builder, visit www.wizards.com/insider.
  • Use the free-text tool provided in your DCI/RPGA profile to enter character information. Once you’ve logged into your profile, simply click on the “My Characters” link on the right-hand navigation to access this feature. You can type whatever information you’d like into the text field.

Note: Players are responsible for bringing their all adventure documentation with them to show past participation in adventures. If you’re playing in a multi-adventure event (such as a convention), it’s advisable to bring a paper logsheet to add recent adventure activity to your pre-event activity.

I approve this message, but disapprove the original approval of this message, which logically means I also disapprove of the approval of the original approval of this message. My approval is the only approve that anyone should approve.

I dismiss all approvals of this message except those issues by entities with an odd number of characters in their name. Also I'm happy that I will no longer need to type in those blasted numbers and that this once and for all settles the "inaccurate online tracking" debate as now there will just be no such thing =P

on a more serious note, this announcement does make me very happy. as i will be running a convention in july, one of the things i was dreading most was the lfr reporting that would inevitably follow.

now, it's a much more simple chore, and will be much less likely to end with a newscaster uttering the words, "before turning the gun on himself."

also, in celebration, i think that when i report our game night tonight, i'm going to give all the players 8,000,000 xp, -6,000,000 gold, and three story awards each. on the tracker of course.

This will also make the system refresh a LOT faster, so for con organizers, it's a win-win. No more worrying about entering little character details and the ability to process tables quicker.

Huzzah! They finally listened to us! Yay :D

Considering how buggy it was (I've heard some truly terrible horror stories as recent as April of this year), it was really the only solution available to us.

Not I, but if that pie is of the blueberry, pumpkin, chocolate creme, cranberry pear, or Boston cream variety (did I mention blueberry?) I will take you up on the offer anyway.

Yay! Faster reporting is fine by me. This also fixes the whole WPN vs Private play and characters not showing up one side or the other (rather it doesn't matter now I guess).

Thanks folks!

Honestly speaking, I think it is sad that they wheren't capable of providing a system which works. A simple way for a DM to edit the reporting information would have been nice.

Creating a system where it is impossible to correct mistakes was doomed to fail from the beginning.

So it's back to the good old times then. :D

I think this is a bit hard to pin down on anybody. There have been a lot of people asking about it, and contrary to popular belief, campaign management does listen to their players. If you want to give anybody pie or beer, it should probably be Chris Tulach. Then again, he watches his calories, so do you mind if I take your piece Chris? ;)

Makes it much easier for those tables of 7. DM gets his rewards and all the players play. Sure, one of the players doesn't get reported but that doesn't much matter now.

Obviously that is not the reason why the character tracking functionality was removed. LFR is meant to be played with 1 DM and 4-6 players.

Slightly off-topic, and not intended to ninja the thread, but...

Tables of 7 - a suggestion:

Take that 7th player and try to instill in them a desire to learn to DM! I have taken my 7th player in the past and asked them to run a main NPC, preferably in a combat encounter mid-way or late in the adventure.

I have found that this gives an entirely new dynamic to the fight, and makes
Show
enemies like the AC 28 level 5 dwarf in EAST1-3, or the gem-studded incredible hulk from CORE1-4

I know. But when 7 or 8 people show up to play I'd rather not turn anyone away.

I intend to play the NPC baddie (or goodie) while someone else DMs in the future if it fits the adventure.

I wish I had a way to deal with what I call the "dreaded numbers" where you have more then 6 but not enough to split into two tables which are 7-9 people.

Tables of 4 are allowed... so you only have that problem with 7 (unless of course you don't have enough DMs).

8 people would leave you with 1 extra player, or short 2 players. Leaving both GMs not only running their own table, but playing at the other table at the same time. Yikes!

9 people would leave you short 1 GM or 1 player. Or wind up with someone either GMing 2 tables at the same time, or GMing one table while playing at another...

Once you hit 10 people, however, you wind up back in possible, with 2 GMs and 2 4 player tables.

If you end up with an extra player/DM, one suggestion is to recruit that extra person--assuming they are willing--to become "assistant DM." This is especially great for a person who has never DMed before but might be good at it. Let that person play the part of some of the NPCs, take over play of some of the monsters during combat, keep track of initiative, manage condition tracking, etc. Sure, not everyone will accept that role rather than playing, but it is an option to get people in on the fun, and it might actually lead to getting another willing and able DM at future events.

Ah, you were counting DMs as players. Yeah, then you do have a problem, but not with 7, just with 8 and 9 (and 4 or less).

In the Journal section for your character, there is a large Notes field where you can manually enter all your Story Awards for that particular adventure.

Now if only there was a way to print out the Journal entries in the Character Builder.

Thanks - that worked great!

I do notice one problem on my Warlock. He has both a quickcurse rod +1 and a pact blade +2. However, the character sheet only displays the stat for using the rod +1. I even removed the quickcurse rod from being equipped so that only the pact blade is equipped, but it still shows on each power only the stats for the quickcurse rod.

Make sure the weapon/implement you want the "default" bonus for is in the main hand.

Failing that, each power that is affected by an implement can be right-clicked (on the character sheet) and you can choose "customize" - from there you can choose what implement/weapon gives a bonus to that power.

Also, sometimes I've noticed problems with switching weapons/implements that only cure themselves upon quitting and restarting the application.

I'm reading that there are some largish bugs in the current version of the CB - and there's some pressure on the DDi team to release a patch (before the slated update next month) to fix them.

Given the news about the Ultimate Dungeon Delve at cons this summer, I might be chipping in on that issue very shortly.

Is there a way to officially report the person as "assistant DM" tho?

Not sure if this is the right topic to put this in, but here it goes.

When reporting LFR games, should you scheduled and report each session in an adventure separately?

Or should you wait until the adventure is over and report all of the sessions at once(scheduling only the first session with the online event sanctioning)?

I'm sure it's a stupid question with a simple answer, but I have asked this question to customer support a few days ago and still haven't got an answer.

No. The assistant would not get any DM reward points for their work. Just the fun of being involved.

You should aim to have a single sanction for each date involved. So, if on July 3rd you will run two adventures, order/sanction those two adventures together. Once the games have been run, then report both of them.

If something happened that resulted in only one being played, and the other will be scheduled for later, then wait until both have concluded to report them. Otherwise, you might find the DM changed due to being ill, a different player showed up, etc. You will get better results if you wait until all adventures complete. And, you can't really guess what will happen in adventures, so you can't answer the adventure questions unless the game has already been run.

If you had to report the session (say, to get your ship tiles), report just the adventure that has concluded and then create a new sanction/event to cover the rescheduled game (and report that one when it concludes).

Hope that makes sense. No such thing as a stupid question in these forums, though we do try at times to test the limits. You haven't come close to 'stupid' with your question!

I am not sure quite what you are asking, really. If I have wrapped my mind about your question correctly, the following may answer it:

For most standard LFR adventures, they are single, 4 hour events, and should be run in a single play session.

For two-round adventures, they take 8 hours, but should still be run as a single game session, just a longer one.

For the one exception to the above rules, ADAP1-2 through ADAP1-4, you would report the ADAP section complete when your group finishes that whole portion of the adventure.
