| #1outherelisteningJul 21, 2010 19:06:45 | I'm trying to obtain one of these numbers and having no luck. It appears that at one time, Wizards customer service would supply a number via mail, but according to an answer I got from them earlier this evening, that's no longer the case. No stores in my city run RPGA events, and I can't get to stores outside my city that might. Anyone have any suggestions? Is this now impossible if you can't get to a store that's running an RPGA event? |
| #2pedrJul 21, 2010 20:47:24 | What is it that you want an RPGA number for? I know that might sound like a silly question to ask, but unless you're playing in organised Wizards Play Network events you don't need one. Now, if you want to organise public WPN events you can sign up as an organiser here and WotC will sort you out with a number: www.wizards.com/Company/WPN/Default.aspx - if you do that, perhaps you could start running WPN events at one of the stores in your city! Sanctioning for the Dark Sun Game Day may still be open (it's open until Friday in the UK) and sanctioning for the September Essentials/Red Box Game Day should now be open. Both are good ways to get D&D played in retail locations. If you want to run Living Forgotten Realms adventures - or simply get GM Rewards for running your home campaigns - in private events, then yes you're going to have to find a game store which will give you an RPGA/DCI membership card - and a supply of cards for your players - before you can start. Note that there is now no difference between a DCI membership card and an RPGA one, so any store which runs sanctioned Magic events should have a supply of membership cards. Once you have a number, you should be able to get signed up as a D&D Private Play organiser by following the instructions here. The current plan appears to be to separate private play of LFR from the RPGA system in the medium term, so soon this probably won't be necessary. Alternatively you may be able to find an RPGA member who could let you have the number from a card they haven't used yet, but that's probably the last resort and you'll still have to find a way to get RPGA numbers for your players. I don't have any spares at the moment so I can't offer, I'm afraid. Do let us know if you have any other questions! |

You can obtain a DCI card and membership number from any Retail Store in your area that runs Magic The Gathering or D&D events. This is the same membership card used to track Magic rated events and WPN/RPGA D&D event participation / DM Rewards points. Use can use the Store/Event Locator to find a local store listed that runs Magic events(Easiest way), as all FNM and Release/Prerelease requires the players to have a DCI membership. If you need any more information, please don't hesitate to ask ;P |

It still feels like a lot of hoops to jump through for someone like me who's just looking for LFR content for private play. I confess I've never bothered to find out what DM Rewards are; this all came about after purchasing "the Slaying Stone" and thinking, "EWWW, this is awful," then doing a web-search for high-quality 4e adventures. I'm preparing to run a level 1 adventure for a mix of my normal group and totally-new-to-D&D players. I confess I'm still perplexed as to what the current intent for LFR content is. I get it re: public play back when LFR had more official support from WotC (although public play just doesn't happen in my city for some puzzling reason), but now it's less clear. Anyway, thanks again for the responses! |
