Old RPGA Cards?

I apologize if this has been asked before. I tried using the search feature, but every time it returned with a blank page (tried with multiple browsers, too).

I have some older RPGA cards that were never registered. I've tried registering them at the DCI site (https://webapp.wizards.com/activation.aspx) and I've tried adding a 1 to the beginning of the numbers with no luck.

Are these cards effectively useless at this point or is there still a way to register them?

Thanks in advance,
-J

From what I was told, any unused RPGA cards are now unusable.

Submit a request for some DCI cards, or if you're in a pinch you may be able to hit your FLGS and see if they have any unused cards. Many retailers have a stack of unused cards from sanctioning FNM or DDM events.

RPGA cards with 8 or fewer digits are unusable. RPGA cards with 10 digits are usable. Do you have different information than that?

The ones I have are 8 digits, so I guess I'm SoL on this one.

I assume I can't just add a "1" or "21" to the beginning of it, eh?

Nope. They are now merely content for the recycle bin.

Are they still processing RPGA cards with the 10 digits? I sent the information card off to them awhile ago, but the player can't log on to the RPGA site with his number. Is it because of the backlogs they have?

Any old RPGA cards throw away whether 8 or 10 digit. They are having problems with the 10 digit ones as well. I have 5 players that have the old 10 digit ones, 3 can not log into their accounts at all, and all 5 do not autopopulate when you report an event. You continually have to type their names in for every event.

IF you can get the new DCI cards with the scratch of tabs then you will be better served for sure

The ten-digit ones work, if by work you mean "can be used to report that someone played in an event."

What happens after that seems very complicated. It may be that dropping a note to customer services indicating when you expect the card was received at WotC, what the number is, and all the personal details gets someone to add the details to the account and send out a password. Then again, it may not.

As mentioned, DCI cards work perfectly.

I got my RPGA card last year but never logged in once. Yesterday after contacting support with a question about what to do, they said it was valid but instead of adding '1' to the beginning of the number they had added "41" for some reason. I logged in and most of my events were there (some of the ones last year were missing).

My friend, who got his card at the same event last year, successfully got a new password with the 1 prepended to his account number. So, I'd say try these before you give up and get a new card. Remember to sign up for the rewards program ASAP -- rewards points aren't retroactively counted! (Don't know why, since the points for each event are listed)

9 or 10 digit RPGA numbered cards do still work, BUT they will not exist in the system until the card is physically received at WotC and a staff person enters it weeks or months later. The old functionality that when the Senior DM entered tables, he could enter an unused number and enter the player name, and it was accepted, was dropped. No doubt, an improvement.

The DCI cards with the scratch activation code is supposed to work immediately, hence is the safer option currently.

10 digit RPGA cards or scratch panel DCI cards can be used for new players - I know from entering about 80-odd for Gen Con UK. At the moment its best to use the scratch panel DCI cards as it allows the new players to log on to the website etc straight away rather than waiting until the form is recieved by Wizards and processed by them.

A lot of people dont mail theirs in at all. Which is why I recommend just avoiding the headache with the 10 digit RPGA ones and just find and use the DCI ones

So if I mailed in the card for the 10 digit RPGA card, it should still eventually work? One of my players tried logging in to register for the Rewards but it wouldn't recognize his number.

I do have an answer to the question as to whether or not the old 10 digit cards still work!!

The answer is yes. What you do is send an email to the RPGA/DCI that you have a number but it doesn't have an activation code. You have to provide your name, address, birthdate and RPGA number. Within a few days they will email you a temporoary password that you can use to login. From there you can sign up for Rewards and view your events.
