Online Delving?

For the past few years I've been involved with some Online campaigns, and recently, I joined up with a group of people who use Fantasy Grounds. We all decided to become involved in the RPGA, and with such, began the idea of sanctioning some games using FGII.....

Now my question is this, is it possible to have Sanctioned Dungeon Delves, online? When we tried it told us we dont have a retail store selected....is it possible to get Fantasy Grounds as an approved Retail Site, seeing as how we had to purchase the program? :p (I know it's not a 'retail site', like a LFGS....but still...)

Any clarification on this topic would be great! :D

I *think* the delve is envisioned as a tool for stores to introduce new players to Dungeons and Dragons (and the swing of levels seen in the delves is to keep things fresh for the people running the modules, as well as a way to expose people who try it a few times "here and there" to experience a greater breadth and width of the varieties in play over the course of a campaign).

However, I'd love to get a delve or two in online (especially in FGII).

I'll see if I can tap anyone to get answers on possibilities for this.

I suspect they won't want to authorize them as delves, but there is nothing stopping someone from running delves as home campaigns is there? The DM would still get the experience, the only problem would be getting the delve file, but they are probably available if people ask around.

I doubt anyone would mind if you ran these at home/online in ADDITION to a retail location, but I equally suspect there'd be a little grumbling if you ordered them for a retail location, then didn't try to run them there.

As for re-sanctioning them as a "Home Campaign (Other)" I suspect that would be frowned upon as well, simply because the DM would get a reward point that way that the delve doesn't appear to be designed to give out.

I would hope you were wrong there Wolfstar, I don't see why anyone would care what type of home game you ran as long as it was D&D under the RPGA and 4th edition rules. Why would it matter if it was a delve or any other type of scenario? I agree on not saying you have as store event then only running it online, but once a store event has been run why would anyone care if the delve was also run online? As I understand it, Delves are not going to be repeated, once it has been run at a retail store it is done as far as WOTC is concerned, why not run it again? Is it somehow supposed to be an exclusive one time thing only? I don't ask here to be a pain, but I may be missing something. The Delve program is to bring people into stores for a quick play D&D hit, I understand that part, but once that month has passed are delves burned out back?

I agree with this. The idea behind Delves make sense: give publicity to local game stores and ensure that the tradition of playing D&D as a group stays fresh and strong. But like the campaigns, once they're played once by a character, they're put to the side in a kind of 'locked' box.....

But what is the harm in running these quick 1-shots online? One would think that it would be the same regardless. Though I don't want to push the issue and have them errata Online Play out of the system just so stuff like this wont happen, I would like some kind of official answer......

The only problem I see with it is that it could be borderline "fraud" for points if you're running content that isn't intended to be for GM points, but doing so in a way that scores points.

However, if rumors are correct, and they're granting points for Delve play now, no harm, no foul.

It would seem insane to give DM points for a home campaign and not give them for Delves, but thanks for the clarification on that. I had missed that Delves didn't give points. Glad to hear they do now.

Well then, in that case, hopefully we should be seeing some form of Delves coming to home play! :D
