The organizers say they can't do public play, believing that there has to be a minimum # of tables to get public play status. Normally we have 3 tables. Is this true? I thought the minimum table deal was only in regards to convention support and that public play just had the requirements of being at a public venue and allowing everyone to play. |

The organizers say they can't do public play, believing that there has to be a minimum # of tables to get public play status. Normally we have 3 tables. I don't think there's a minimum any more. There are some administrative hoops to jump through before someone can get authorized to sanction Public games though. For an outsider the process can be pretty daunting, but if this "local gaming venue" already does Magic the Gathering events then they wouldn't be outsiders... |

I always organized a small game day which consisted of 1 to 6 tables and I never had questions about it. The limits were for conventions who could get special support. There definitely is no such limit now-a-days. |

In those days, a con could get a premiere adventure, whereas gamedays, retail, and home play got releases later (much later for home play). I am not sure exactly when that phased out, but certainly when LFR adopted one date, all release, or now public release and private release. I am not sure that game day ever had a minimum size. The software certainly does not care now. Keith |

At my FLGS we only ran one table for the first couple years - we're hovering around 2.5 right now. The biggest different between an Game Day and a Retail event was the venue. I understand choosing Retail had some small benefits for stores that get product from WotC directly. Regardless, the current answer is that there are no minimums - even if you wanted to run only a single table, you can certainly register and report your events.
