Question About Sanctioning Events.

So, the RPGA site says that you must be 18 in order to sanction an event. But I was wondering, would this also be true about home games? If it's a small home game I don't think the DM absolutely needs to 18, I understand how a Senior DM of a Game Day, Convention, or other such large scale event should be liable for what happens to the players but is it really necessary for home games? Could I get a Wizards of The Coast Official's opinion on this?

Thanks,
Chad

Yes, it is necessary for even home games if they are to be sanctioned. Sanctioned events are contractual agreements with authorized representatives. Which means you gotta be of contract-signing age.

Wait, if I can't sanction an event just yet (Grr, 1 year, 8 months, and 16 more days to wait), would I still get GM reward points for being an Appeals GM at an event someone else has sanctioned?

For that you will have to ask the RPGA.

You get RPGA reward points for GMing.

You may (or may not) still get extra points for being Senior GM for a large event if you are a Master level GM. I suspect you don't any more.

Which leaves us with "you get RPGA reward points for GMing". Every session you GM gives you one point. There doesn't seem to be a way you can earn points for being the appeals GM - or, in fact, the senior GM - the way you earn points is being the session GM. You don't need to be 18 for this, obviously. Also, (although the rules sometimes suggest otherwise) you don't need to be the Senior GM to be the session GM for a home game. If one of your players is a Herald-level GM you can get them to sanction and report the event, with you GMing it. If none of them are, see if you can find a parent or other person who's at least 18 to take the test and act as your Senior GM. No-one will know if they're not even in the building with you when you run your event!

Okay, thanks, that's all I needed to know.

So, just clarifying, if I were to have one of my friends down at the local game store (A master-level GM, also the manager of the store) sanction the game, he could just go along with his normal work shift and I could DM the campaign, and I'd still get the points, even if I'm not the Senior GM?

As long as he was taking the time to report everything properly, yes you would get all the credit.

Alright, thanks. I think that's all I needed to know.
