Since this is an RPGA specific question, i hope this is the appropriate forum to ask these questions in . . .

1. I am currently building my LFR character for GenCon, and with the 100g limit I am trying to spend my cash as frugally as possible. I noticed in the players handbook that 10 days ration costs 5 gold.

Does anyone know if it would be legal to purchase 5 days ration at 2.5 gold? Or some other mathematical variant to purchase fewer rations? (4 days for 2 gold etc.)

2. Do Wizards and Clerics have to spend there starting 100g to purchase their spellbooks (ritual castings books)? In the PHB it says under both classes that "you possess a ritual book (spellbook)" in each class's section.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

It looks to me like in the new, simplified version of the rules rations are always sold in 10-packs, so I'd have to assume you buy them as such. While there's nothing saying you HAVE to buy them 10 at a time, there's nothing that says you can break that pack up either.

I doubt anyone would get bent out of shape if you bought a half-pack of rations, however.

For wizards your spellbook/ritualbook is a class feature, so you already have it.
Class Features: Arcane Implement Mastery, cantrips,
Ritual Casting, spellbook

Clerics get Ritual Casting, but have to buy the book since it isn't listed as a feature.

Of course, I'm nobody official, just a schmuck with an opinion. Any of the staff people may override me opinions with facts.

As an official campaign person, I hereby confirm that Wolfstar76 is just a schmuck with an opinion. :-) Just kidding! He is one of the most helpful people here.

Oh, and everything he said is spot on. Buy things as listed in the books without alterations. While there is no harm in buying a "half-pack" of rations, people may start getting funny ideas about variations that "make sense" to them that are abusive of the rules.

Actually Clerics it says you possess a book and have Gentle Repose plus another ritual. To me, that means Clerics also get the book free.

Oh. . . hey. . . lookit that!

Ritual Casting
You gain the Ritual Caster feat (page 200) as a bonus feat, allowing you to use magical rituals (see Chapter 10). You possess a ritual book, and it contains two rituals you have mastered: the Gentle Repose ritual and one other 1st-level ritual of your choice.

Looks like clerics get freebies too.
