UA allows Races of Faerun, but not the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. Am I allowed to bring a sun elf or strongheart halfling character to an Undermountain Adventures game, since the racial traits are found only in the FRCS, but the races are listed in RoF?

If it isn't listed as a valid rules sources, then no.

Why are some books considered valid rules sources, and others aren't?

Because some books are judged to be too unbalancing for RPGA-style play. While you can modify things in a homegame, RPGA games are written to cover a host of options - and they need to follow a certain baseline. Accordingly, some books/options fall outside that line and skew things too much.

Where is the info for "Undermountain Adventurers" ? Wasnt this a 3.5 thing or is it something new for 4.0?

Thats what I thought. Arent all of the 3.5 campaigns officially dead now? Thats why the OP's post confused me. Didnt think there was any 3.5 for RPGA and WOTC going on anymore

Only 3.5 campaign I know a definite end date for is LG, and that is still a few days away, as yet.

LG Ends the last day of the year, XE also follows suit (though, since character tracking was killed, I don't think there's any XE play going on anymore).

I *think* the Undermountain line also dies at the end of the year, with all play from 2009 on to the forseeable future being 4E.

Actually LG's official end was like in August. You are just able to play the modules until thr 31st. We have 6 or 7 people in from out of town here playing some LG mods this weekend as a matter of fact. Unfortunately I am not there because well I destroyed all my LG stuff back this summer. And I dont know if I could run 3.5 now that I am vested in 4.0

No, the official end of the LG campaign is December 31, 2008. The official end of new material for the campaign was at the end of June, 2008. August, 2008 was the start of the new Living campaign, LFR.

In regards to an earlier question about why some books were allowed and some weren't...

WolfStar76 was right, but there's a little bit more to it. When Undermountain Adventures was released, D&D was well into 3.5. The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting was a 3e product and required numerous cleanups and updates; much of the player's desired data was included in later sources.

It was simply a version mis-match, that's all. Good luck finishing UA - awesome stuff! My group loved it.

Not wanting to mince words here but .....

"The Living Greyhawk campaign officially ended and the campaign staff disbanded on June 30, 2008. However, RPGA members may continue ordering adventures when they login to their RPGA Members Page."
