Just want to confirm...If I register a new RPGA member at an event I run, Can I report the event prior to his mailing in his new membership card? Does he get points for having participated in that adventure? Does he count as one of my four player minimum?

I'm assuming the answer is yes to all these questions - just looking for verification.

Currently the answers are No, No, and Yes.

First off, make sure the card you give him is a 10 digit card. If you don't have any, request new ones. Secondly, the system currently will not allow you to report a session that has a player that you are newly entering into the system.

As far as points, he will get points only for the events played after he signs up for points. His account needs to be activated, then he signs up, then you report the table before he'll get points. I can't find how to sign up for RPGA rewards these days.

But, he will count as one of your four.

Just to clarify - he doesn't NEED a 10-digit card. He just need to convert cards to a minimum of 9 digits by adding 100000000 to the number on old cards.

Getting new 10-digits cards may be *simpler* but it isn't by any means required.

The issue with not being able to enter new members is (likely) a temporary setback until they wrangle the database into behaving. I wouldn't be surprised if they get it working in the next couple weeks, whereas mailing in a card usualyl takes 3-6 weeks to get entered, and based on just the number of new members we signed up at GenCon, I wouldn't be at ALL surprised if there's quite a backlog now - in addition to the wait for the database to allow entry.

(I think I heard that even WotC people couldn't currently enter new members. At GenCon even Chris Tulach's login wasn't allowing many changes/entries for the first couple days).

Sorry, but according to my latest information, this is inaccurate.

The first bug I encountered with the system was this, and the solution Ian provided was to let me know that less-than-ten-digit membership application cards no longer work. Only already existing and active RPGA numbers can be converted to nine-digit DCI numbers - even converted, the system will not let you enter a less-than-ten-digit number unless that number already has a person attached to it in the system.

Unless things have changed in the last week, of course!

I managed to get a new ten-digit number to report PREV-2 and D&D Home Campaign (Other) (I think) without a major hitch, although I had to add the name each time, even though there were a few days between reportings - the name didn't stick in the system, but the system accepted the report.

I believe that this would not have been the case had the session been for Living Forgotten Realms, but I've not tried that yet.

I suspect it's a matter of symantics (and general confusion as the database is flexed, massaged, and repaired), as a "7-digit" membership won't work because it doesn't exists anymore, but can be converted to 9-digit. Otherwise I'm gonna have to ditch a bunch of cards that are at my FLGS.

Any chance Ian or Chris can clarify here, publicly, for the official record?

Sorry, not semantics. It's 'ditch the cards' time, according to my information, following discussion with Ian.

He told me (via email, after a good chunk of time trying to find out what was causing my problem) that the following text should be going in an FAQ sometime soon:
Organizers can not use the older cards. Only cards with 10 digit numbers
can be used to assign new numbers. Please request new cards by
contacting dci@wizards.com letting us know how many cards you require.
Please note that a pad of cards contain 25 new membership forms and
attached membership cards.

This is total crap.

I've had lots of people show up and sign up and I was wondering why they hadn't heard back with their logins, etcetera.

If only the whole thing was automated...

I'm not sure anyone hears back with thier log-ins.

Does anyone know if the new ten-digit cards have authentication codes on them, the way I've heard some DCI cards do? There does not appear to be a default log-in any more, so I'm not sure how new members are meant to get access to their accounts.

A while back, before the changeover, I had requested some more cards because I was down to one, and expecting some new people to show up for my DoD game.

Well, after sending in a request to DCI for a pad of the new forms, I was pulling out these old ones to trash them, when I saw that they had 10 digit numbers on them.

Well, they don't have an authentication code on them, so I suspect it is a matter of contacting DCI to get a password, if the default Renton one doesn't work anymore.
