| #1209thespianFeb 08, 2010 15:34:05 | I would like to request the resanctioning of living greyhawk for dungeons and dragons 3.5. This is the only way i know how to contact the people in charge of this. I'm not asking to replace 4th edition, simply bring 3.5 back. |
| #2kenobi65Feb 08, 2010 17:09:44 | I think I understand where you're coming from, but I simply don't think it's going to happen. RPGA's budget comes from WotC, and they exist to encourage play of WotC's currrent product line. WotC no longer has any interest in 3.5 (and hasn't sold any 3.5 books for nearly 2 years now). I just don't foresee a situation in which WotC would fund the RPGA running a 3.5 campaign. |
| #3Keith53Feb 08, 2010 17:19:46 | It would be stupid of WotC to create competition for its new products from its old product line. Not going to happen. Keith |
| #422_Over_7Feb 08, 2010 18:25:13 | Have you tried Pathfinder? It's like 99% 3.5 rules. |
| #5209thespianFeb 08, 2010 23:37:04 | I'm away of all that. I simply wish to have the experience of a convention without having to play 4th edition. |
| #6kenobi65Feb 08, 2010 23:42:51 | I'm away of all that. I simply wish to have the experience of a convention without having to play 4th edition. Well, as 22 alluded to, Pathfinder Society is Paizo's Living-style campaign, which uses their Pathfinder ruleset. It may not be quite as widespread as LFR, but it *is* set up for convention play. |
| #722_Over_7Feb 08, 2010 23:50:46 | Paizo had a room for Pathfinder Society @ GenCon... |
| #8WolfStar76Feb 09, 2010 13:08:37 | Unfortunately, 209thespian, what others have said is correct. Wizards of the Coast does not and (for the forseeable future) will not support any edition of Dungeons and Dragons other than 4th Edition. This include support in the form of rulebooks, as well as Organized Play. With that said, at DDXP attendees were encouraged to bring ANY version of D&D they were willing to run/play and to sit in the gaming hall to run whatever they liked. I hear rumors that this might happen again at future shows (Origins, GenCon, etc). So while WotC won't be directly supporting older versions of Dungeons and Dragons, they certainly do still want people to play any version they're happy with. |
| #9Mind_Flayer_MonkFeb 09, 2010 15:15:36 | You could try something like Greyhawk Reborn. I am not sure how active it is. Maybe a post over at ENWorld might be helpful as well? greyhawkreborn.pbworks.com/Greyhawk-Rebo... I think there is still some activity, but am not sure. |
| #10_Mithreinmaethor_Feb 09, 2010 19:48:39 | What cracks me up is that they are bringing out Gamma World this year and has of yet to release Greyhawk. Trying to figure out where the Greyhawk hate is coming from within WOTC |
| #11WolfStar76Feb 10, 2010 2:12:23 | What cracks me up is that they are bringing out Gamma World this year and has of yet to release Greyhawk. Trying to figure out where the Greyhawk hate is coming from within WOTC It isn't a matter of hate, it's a matter of what they feel they can do with the setting to differentiate it from other "standard fantasy worlds". First they did Forgotten Realms as a classic "high fantasy" setting. Then Eberron as a "high magitech/still fantasy" setting Dark Sun is coming out next as a change of pace, creating/filling a niche for "apocolyptic fantasy" Gamma World is another beast entirely - A Sci-Fi game being bolted onto established 4E rules (with a CCG twist). Unfortunately, Greyhawk also falls into the "classic high fantasy" niche that Forgotten Realms is currently holding in the 4E product line. I suspect Dragonlance suffers the same problem. There's nothing wrong with either setting (well, maybe the Kender. . . ) but they don't "stand out" enough for where WotC is trying to go currently. Or at least, so I've been able to piece together from podcasts, conventions, and the like. |
| #12gomeztooFeb 10, 2010 4:54:39 | I woudl give "Kara Tur" or "AL Qadim", or even "Spelljammer" more chance than Greyhawk, for the reasons quoted by Wolfstar. You never know, of course. They might as well return Maztica next, or Hollow World. Gomez |
| #13Dragon9Feb 10, 2010 10:06:02 | I woudl give "Kara Tur" or "AL Qadim", or even "Spelljammer" more chance than Greyhawk, I would put Greyhawk before Spelljammer since spelljamming is core now. SJ falls into the realm of slim and none, and I believe slim just left town. |
| #14ibixatFeb 10, 2010 18:21:54 | I think Planescape should be the official setting personally =) favorite setting of all time for me. |
| #15Dragon9Feb 17, 2010 20:23:49 | I think Planescape should be the official setting personally =) favorite setting of all time for me. Yo know, it is core now. So technically... it is. EDIT: Fixed my horrible typing for ibixat's comprehension. ;) |
| #16ibixatFeb 18, 2010 21:13:39 | at first I thought iscore was iScore, some iphone app or something... lol |
| #17Dragon9Feb 19, 2010 18:38:49 | Fixed. |
