RPGA and magic items

hi all! :D
i want to start GMing an rpg event and i was reading all the rules.
i was reading the RPGA character creation guide V1.8 and on page 8 is a "treasure and rewards" section.

the second dot point down states:

You can only possess a number of found magic items
equal to your character level. In 4th Edition D&D, your
character finds about one item every level or so.
Therefore, in Living Forgotten Realms, characters cannot
possess more found magic items (that is, items acquired at
the end of an adventure) than their level. If you sell or
discard a magic item you’ve found, it still counts against
your total number of found magic items.

does this mean that: even if a 10th level fighter saves all his gold, and manages to get enough gold to purchase a magic item. he cant own another one if he already has "found" 10 items. EVEN IF he has the gold for it?

i need this statement clarified for me, and any help form staff will be greatly appreciated.

thanx in advance

Each chara can get magic items two ways.

First by picking the item as part of a quest bundle.
Second by buying the item with their gold.

Now say you have a new chara and you complete you 1st quest. At the end of the quest you dm give you a list of items to pick from. These items are called bundles. which includes items like weapons, armor, wands, other gear, rituals and more gold.

So let say you 1st toon choices to take the flaming weapon that offered as a reward for his 1st quest. Thus his magic item total count is equal to his level. Now he has to only take the more gold, or ritual, or potion bundles till he reaches lvl 2. Thus if in his seconds quest he is offered a vicious weapon to pick HE CAN NOT take it since he picked one for this level already.

Now if he takes only potions or more gold options for his first three quest till he reaches level 2. He has two open slots for found magic item. Thus if he wanted to he can pick a item boundle from his next two quest.

And you can only take one reward bundle per quest.

As for buying magic items. You can buy as many magic items as you can afford. Thus the only limits is the amount of gold you have to buy stuff. And the items you buy must be equal to your level or less. Thus a level 5 chara can only buy magic items of level 5 or lower.

As mobow notes, there are two ways a LFR PC gains magic items:

- Found items, obtained as treasure during modules. These are limited to one item for each of your character levels.
- Purchased items, which you buy with gold. There is no limit to the number of purchased items you can have, although you can only purchase items that are your current level or less.

That is what i thought...

The statement in the guide " (that is, items acquired at
the end of an adventure) " stands out alot more now.
Due to potential fights/arguments about the rules, its better to get
everyone’s opinion before i start GMing a game. just to
avoid these sort of negatives.

thank you very much for the clarification.

Q: Shut your festering gob, you ***! Your type really makes me puke, you vacuous, coffee-nosed, maloderous, pervert!!!
M: Look, I CAME HERE FOR AN ARGUMENT, I'm not going to just stand...!!
Q: OH, oh I'm sorry, but this is abuse.
M: Oh, I see, well, that explains it.
Q: Ah yes, you want room 12A, Just along the corridor.
M: Oh, Thank you very much. Sorry.
Q: Not at all.
M: Thank You.

Was that a conversation between Dave Christ and a rogue DM?

While on the topic of magical items, I heard one of the guys at my table say that you can't use magic items to high for your level. This makes sense but I wanted to know what the level cut off is.

I played my first RPGA living forgotten realms game on friday. I chose a magical staff that was I believe level 5. Can my level 1 character still use this staff or do I have to wait a few levels?

Have you read the CCG? It contains the answers you seek in the LFR appendix. You can find it on the RPGA downloads page.
