I do a lot of Play-by-post gaming (it suits my schedule very nicely) and with WotC's new (and apparently arcane) rules regarding online play and online resources, I was wondering what, if any, the RPGA is looking into as far as certifying games played online?

Would a Site need to be "registered" or somehow approved for RPGA play?

Until recently I don't think many people had given any thought to RPGA play-by-post.

The new RPGA character creation guidelines contain a reference, for the first time ever. As far as I can tell the only restriction is that the board must be private - you need to find a site/system/whatnot which means that only the GM and players can read what is being posted.

You need to make sure all players are RPGA members. You also need firm commitment from all the players as what you're doing is essentially trying to mimic 5 to 7 people getting together in a room on one occasion and playing a scenario from start to finish. Once you've started, you can't add or subtract players, change characters, or whatnot (certainly if you're playing LFR), and once you've started playing with a particular set of characters, those characters can never play the scenario again, although the players could, with different characters.

Finally, you might find that the focus on tactical combat will significantly extend the time it'll take to play a scenario, so you need to take that into consideration.

Now that's a lot of downsides, but I think it is probably possible, and wish you well! Let us know whether and how well it works! (though, of course, there aren't any LFR modules available at the moment, except the three previews, which might be a good way of testing out the whole thing!)
