Honestly, unless you're planning on running RPGA games at a game store, it doesn't matter anymore.  You can now get 99% of LFR adventures to DM without having to log onto the RPGA system (the only real exception is "Adventuring Company" adventures, which are still only for public play).

There isn't even a way for you to report play of an RPGA game any longer, if it's not being run at a retail location.

There's no longer any need to take a test, or get certified, to run RPGA adventures (either as a judge, or as an event organizer), unless you're seeking to run things at a retail location -- at that point, you need to work through the Wizards Play Network system, which can be a bit complicated, and I don't even understand it very well.  But, again, there's no need to do this if you're going to be running games on campus, for example.

In short, *you* no longer need an active RPGA number, or any sort of certification, to order adventures, and your players don't need RPGA numbers to play any more.

Most LFR adventures are available for download from this site, under either the "Recent Adventures" or "Old Adventures" links:
www.livingforgottenrealms.com/

Some adventures are listed as being available in the "LFR Adventure Archive", which is a big .ZIP file you download directly from WotC (livingforgottenrealms.com has a link to the archive, where applicable).

Note that livingforgottenrealms.com also has a link to the current Campaign Guide, which will be useful for you to review.

Hope this helps!

Is this a change dictated by WPN, or the RPGA network?  Seems to me there is a lot of us that would enjoy something that gives us the ability to sanction events and run gain certification as a judge.

Is there any talk of the RPGA changing how events at non-retail locations will be handled, or is it all going to be just loosey goosey now?

1) I'm not certain, but I suspect it was the result of completing the consolidation of the RPGA into the WPN.

2) If there's been any discussion of it by the RPGA folks, I'm unaware of it.  The sense I get is that they've tried to remove as many impediments to playing LFR in non-retail venues as they could.  I guess that does make it a little "loosey goosey", compared to the old days.
