| #1LibertarianTaxManAug 03, 2009 10:17:15 | Hi Everyone! I have some questions on how I can get some help... I am a part of the Indianapolis RPGA group that runs games at Gamerz in Indianapolis. When 4.0 came out we started with running one table on Mondays. We have pushed the game so much that we now have somewhere around 40 - 60 players a week. We get 30-40 players on Monday with 4 or 5 tables running, and around half of that on Thursdays. Each week we bring in a few new players to D&D! Our group grows each week. With our community chipping in we have a pool of 8 DM's between us all we usually get through with the minis that we have. Personally I only have a small box of D&D Minis, so I use quite a few of the Mage Knight and other mini figure games. It is usually a mad scramble hunt for minis that we (DM's) can use for the modulars that we are running each night. We also do not charge anything for the games we run. NOR do we want to charge. Gamerz is a great game shop, we do take up quite a lot of their space. We bring them enough money that they do not "charge" us anything either. When we started bringing in the large crowds they started stocking a large selection of D&D products. Our group brings in new players to D&D, and we bring quite a bit of money to Wizards. To help us run our games better, we need minis. If there is some type of program where Wizards sends out a box of minis for running Mods, you can send them to the game shop. If someone has a bunch of "junk" minis that you think that we can use, then I will buy them for our group if they are super cheap. I will be at Gencon (Build a foam weapon workshops/fight club) I am looking for bulk minis, I don't need the cards or anything. If you want to do trading for what I have, I do have some big money mins with the the cards. Red Wizard, Elmenster, and a few other $20+ figs. I bought the box O minis off a guy that was getting out of the game. I just want to help out our group. It is nice to be able to have the correct mins to run games with. Again, we run a lot of games for people who are brand new to RPGA and to Dungeons and Dragons 4.0 This is a web board that was started for our group. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/RPGAGamerz/ Thank You Joell IndyMisfit@hotmail.com Hope to See you at Gencon! |

Similar to the PH2 and MM2 days, these come with free minis for the DM and/or players. Any unused minis would go to the store, such as if you ordered a set for 3 tables but ran 2. This could become part of the pool of minis. Beyond that, there are some decent e-bay all common or all common and uncommon sets sold periodically for reasonable prices. You could look at charging a really low fee but placing it towards a common pool of minis that judges could use. Minis aren't the only thing. You could also work to have a 'craft day' of sorts and have people make cool terrain, such as a river stream, crates and barrels (wooden cubes and barrel/spools in craft stores can be painted), area of effect templates, platforms, etc. A really easy way to make AoE templates is to use 16 gauge wire (sold in florist or craft shops for cheap) and the black rubber stuff wedged into screen doors (called Spline). Cut the metal to the right size, insert into the hole in the spline, and you make a square (adjust the size of the metal to account for the spline's curve, shoving the metal in or out as needed). You can see an example here. |

| #4medAug 05, 2009 12:00:32 | There many options for minis. I have a one gallon ziplock freezer bag of minis. Most of them are the same. I have run enough games that my players get it...they know my tree blights may be a zombie one night, or a kobold the next. The right minis for the right game is not crucial. Remember, this is a game of fantasy. There was a time that no minis were used at all. As a volunteer for the D&D events at Gencon this year, there have been a ton of great ideas. M&Ms, Skittles, Hershey Kisses, dice, etc. Check with the organizers for more information on the DMs, there may be more DMs lurking and some scheduling issues that you may not be aware of. In fact, I would put money on the fact that those organizers have already been in contact with WotC about seeing what/if any support is available for a group like this. |

But I want RPGA players (expecially NEW players) to get the full feel of the game. We spend hours each week pushing around our little plastic characters on the board. I would feel somewhat cheated if I was fighting a Hearshy Kiss. (Even if it was the awesome ones with crackle and white chocolate in it, I would feel cheated) ![]() Thanks Alpha for the advice! I am going to start watching E-bay for those large bundles. Speaking of making wagons barrels and what not, if you go to the dollar stores some of them have the Cowboy and Indians little mins sets that have a couple of barrels, wagons, and tents in them. Luckily they fit right in with the D&D map sizes! GENCON is almost here!!! Joell |
