Hello everyone.

Just wanted to start a thread where we can all discuss anything you'd like about the forum VCL (currently me), and where I, in turn, can talk to you about the VCL program.

To that end, my current assignment of RPGA VCL official ends in November (a VCL is assigned to a task for 3 months at a time). It is my intent to re-apply for the position, but I wanted to make sure I announced it so that anyone else interested in the task may also apply in the VCL Application Thread.

Even if you're not interested in a VCL position yourself (a listing of VCL Task Areas is available, here) you can also feel free to comment on a candidate's applciation (for or against) in that thread, or by sending a PM to Solice with your feedback.

If I understand the program correctly, should I be chosen for renewal as forum VCL, I'll be upgraded to a Senior VCL, which will allow me to appoint Forum Guides.

Forum Guides? What's that?

Well, in a nutshell, a Forum Guide is someone who's assigned a task on behalf of a VCL. They can be generalists, simply communicating in the VCL's forum area - or they can be assigned a particular task or set of tasks, ranging from writing/maintining an FAQ, to monitoring a sub-section of a forum.

If I do get Forum Guides going forward I'll likely be looking for people to help out with individual RPGA campaigns (LFR now, hoping we hear about something new for DDXP), and/or to write and maintain FAQs.

So, if you have any questions about the VCL program, my status as VCL, have a task for me as your VCL, or are interested in the Forum Guide program, please feel free to post about it here - or to send me a PM. Whichever is best for you.

Is it true that you VCLs get paid in the form of the souls of Magic players? ;)

Seriously, though, it's a ton of work. We have such a large community and fanbase through the various products that it may be more work than some folks realize - so kudos to those that rock out with it!

As an aside, I still plan on PMing/emailing some of those FAQ ideas to you. Now that I've moved across the country and work is settling down a little bit we're in great shape for more gaming-related activity...

Nope, all I got was a lifetime supply of Natural 1's.

Actually, I'm pretty lucky to have a low-maintenance forum as my task. You guys aren't given to lots of rabble-rousing, and we don't see many trolls OUTSIDE our modules, so my title is very nearly honorary. Still, it felt good to dust out the cobwebs of stickies that weren't relevant anymore, and to put more up-to-date information up.

As your time allows. What I've brewed up is liveable. Could probably be better, but I think what's REALLY important is in there.

Not sure I'd have the time to be a VCL, but, if you do get to appoint Forum Guides for the RPGA board, I'd be interested in applying. I think you've done an excellent job on this.

If/when we get a Living SW:Saga forum you're my FIRST choice.

In the interim if I get Senior status as I expect I'll be happy to take suggestions from people interested in becoming Forum Guides and what they'd like to do/cover.

I'll be honest, I can only think of two potential tasks at the moment:
  • RPGA FAQ Overseer and Forum Guide
  • LFR FAQ Overseer and Forum Guide

In a nutshell, these would be people who want to write/maintain the FAQ for each section, and would also be the primary point of contact for their section when I'm not around/available/being complained about.

While a SVCL gets six (I think) Guides, I don't think there's enough demand here for more than two at the moment.

But we can sweat that more if/when I get a new shiny title.

I'd like to let you all know that I have been renewed as RPGA VCL, as well as promoted to Senior VCL.

As part of this promotion, I've been given the ability to pick and choose Forum Guides, and have already made my first selection.

Everyone, please welcome Kenobi65 as my first Forum Guide.

Kenobi will be helping out in the RPGA HQ section primarily. He'll be taking over the FAQ, and mostly just doing what he already does - helping answer questions and steering people in the right directions when they're lost.

I still intend to find an LFR Forum Guide as well, and will work on that next week when time allows.

Thanks again to all of YOU for making these forums such a pleasant place to be assigned.

Thank you, WolfStar. Now I need to make sure I prep the Dispel Confusion spell on a daily basis. ;)

Just FYI - Due to a very stressful situation at work, I've had zero time for the forums in the last week, and this will continue to be the case for a couple days.

If there's any particular issue anyone feels I need to be aware of, please feel free to PM me, or to send me an AIM message (wolfstar76).

You can also direct many questions/concerns to Kenobi65 as the designated RPGA Forum Guide.

Thanks all for your patience. I look forward to having the time to "hang out" here again very soon.

And, just FYI, I'll be around until 12/25, when I head out of town for a few days (and the internet connection at my parents' house is awful). As today is my last day in the office until the New Year, I should be able to check the boards fairly frequently until Christmas.

Two bits of news tonight.

1) I'd like everyone to congratulate Dragon 9. I'm currently going through the process of slappping a "Forum Guide" title on his account. Dragon9 will be in charge of the LFR section of the forums going forward, since he's shown himself to be a visible friendly presence, knowledgeable in the area, and he really cemented his (mis)fortune when he took the initiative to write the LFR FAQ.

I don't know when his title will be processed, but he's my new set of eyes out there.

2) With DDXP impending I'll (probably) have less time for the forums next week, so I'm going to leave mudbunny (SVCL for Dungeons and Dragons Insider) acting as my official backup (though I've notified the entire VCL team of my impending absence, so all SORTS of weirdos may be traipsing through).

Things are almost always calm and collected around here, but on the off chance that something should come up, please don't hesitate to contact mudbunny via PM (or AIM) or to post in this thread, as I'll make sure he's keeping an eye out for issues.

Thanks, guys!

RPGA people calling us weirdos?? If that isn't the case of the kettle calling the pot black, I don't know what is.

But in all honesty, feel free to PM/IM me if there is anything urgent that needs taking care of. I am pretty much available most of the time, just drop me a PM and I will see what I can do. From what Wolfstar has told me, other than an occasionally need to remind you guys to shower (because *everybody* knows what Con people are like), you are a pretty calm bunch.

:D
