So how exactly do I join RPGA...

I sent the following message to customer service from the RPGA page. I wanted to keep people posted on the results, since I am getting a bit frustrated.

...I was excited about joining RPGA again. Been a few years, and I was excited about becoming a member for the LFR stuff and launch of 4E. There are no local members within a reasonable driving distance... so I went to Gen Con.

I wandered up to the RPGA room, got to play a game. Got my new little card, played a good game... and eagerly awaited being able to take my DM Test and get my local pair of players into the organization.

So, I get home after the Con. Check my password and the like a week later. No joy, so... a month passes... I check it again. Post a line on here... Contact Customer Service... still no joy.

So, now its coming up at the end of the year... still no word from anything WotC, RPGA, or useful. I just want to join, earn some points, that sort... and after missing the opening of the LFR... due to some failure... getting a bit grumpy about it.

Here's my question? How the hell do I join the RPGA?
I can buy a car online, I can join the Pathfinder Society online, I can join the Hermetic Order of the Golden online, I can become a minister online, so on and so forth... and I still can't join RPGA online?

Oh yes, just to head this off at the pass... I tried my number with ST+ZIP, WA98055 and even the zip that Gen Con took place at.

I'd start by reading the RPGA FAQ posted right above this post. ;)

In a nutshell, you can signup on this page.

If you already have a number, however, and you just need help getting that number active, I'm actually going to borrow the following post from BillBo, VCL for DCI.

Mingau:

the WotC Help Center helps and has an answer for you:
Since activation codes are a relatively new innovation for the DCI, many members have cards that don’t have activation codes associated with them. The activation code is just a way to receive your initial password.

If you have an 10 digit DCI card without an activation code or an 8 digit card you may retrieve your password by sending us an email message, using the E-mail Us Tab page. Including as much of the following information as possible with your request: your specific request, your DCI number, full name, address, and birth date (MM/DD/YYYY). We'll get your password out to you as soon as possible as long as the information you provide us is accurate and we can confirm your identity.

Hope that helps.

Lee,

I apologize for the delay in this. There have been multiple issues involving getting all the GenCon RPGA numbers entered into our system. At this time, about 50% of them have been added. I did another check, and yours is not one that has been yet. Please be patient with us, as we are doing our best to get these entered as soon as possible.

Thank you,

We would appreciate your feedback on the service we are providing you. Please click here to fill out a short questionnaire.

I find this to be generally amusing... So, something involving WotC and computer is having issues... what a shock.

Oh yes, the issue was marked as SOLVED? How the heck... the customer support agent gave me an excuse for something not being done. This does not in any fashion 'SOLVE' my problem.

As misleading as it is, "Solved" is not the same as "Completed" - Solved, for their Customer Services purposes means that they've had a personal reply to your issue. If you reply back (keeping the issue number in the subject line, etc) that will re-open the case.

I think they used the "Solved" option so that if you don't reply they don't have a ticket hanging in limbo forever.

So, for now they've got your number you just have to continue to be patient until it's in the system. Believe me, the GenCon SNAFU is nothing *any* of us are pleased about, especially not those of us that volunteer for the conventions and were powerless AT the con to help people. I digress.

If you're still eager to take the DM Test and host your own events at the local level, I'd actually encourage you, at this point, to get a new number via the address I liked previously.

When the number you were assigned at GenCon is finally in the system you can always request that customer service merge the numbers together if you like.
