| #1mazetarApr 11, 2009 7:51:30 | Hello! I'm trying to get some regular Home Events up and running in Hammerfest, Norway. There are no other RPGA memmbers in my town nor within 4-6hrs of driving (yeah we kinda live in the middle of nowhere, someone have to it's just how it is!) anyways I'm wondering about a few things: 1) Can I still host Home Events for D&D 3.5e? or do all events in RPGA now have to be 4e? 2) About Event reporting, I read the great RPGA FAQ and it answeared alot of questions but I'm wondering about this: "Be sure to record the correct total for the gold and XP gains/losses, as well as Bundle IDs and Certificates. These last two have their own vague but perfectly functional drop-down menus." a) Gold/XP i just write like 1000 XP if the char has earned 1000 XP that session, and -10 in the gold box if he has lost 10gold that session? not the total gold he got? b) wtf is "Bundle IDs and Certificates." c) How do I set what the players Deafult char is? 3) As I said I live in the middle of nowhere when it comes to the RPGA world atleast, so how do I get my players registerd for RPGA playing as fast as possible? best way to have my players send the rigth info to "custserv@hasbro.be" and then ask "dci@wizards.com" for some CARDS to register players when we get more peopple interested in joining RPGA? 4) Well I plan on starting with Home Events, try to recruit more and more RPGA memmbers/D&D Gamers and hopefully learn some of them to DM too^^ Any hints/tips on how to start creating a D&D/RPGA community in a place where there exists none except for a group of 4-8players and a DM? 5) During Home Play events, is a player allowed to play the same adventure twice, with different chars on different days? Since it's not playing to win prices etc. 6) How do you report char death? I hope someone would be so kind to answer my questions if you are able to answer some of them Thanks in advance. With Best Regards: Mazetar - Hammerfest,Norway, Europe. |

Instead of reporting "Joey Loadbottom takes +2 Adamantine Battle Axe" you just fill in the box with the letter which represents that item for that character. Each player can only choose one bundle per adventure and they must have magic item slots open as needed in accordance with the CCG. The "Certificates" refers to the story awards for the players for the adventure they just played. When downloading a adventure there is a seperate .pdf file with "story awards" in the title. Print one sheet out for every 3 players that play that adventure at the end cut them out and pass them out. It helps players add charater to thier characters. c) You can't they must keep track of which character slot they want this adventures info reported to. If they leave it blank by default the info is dumped into the default slot. If players are unsure I usually hold off on reporting it for a day or two until they email me the correct info. 3) Yes it bites to be nowhere. Try what you said. Also if there happens to be a convention near by go to it bringing your friends and any RPGA event should be able to get you or friends numbers. Once you have activated numbers you can play online (its legal but I haven't done it don't know more about it). 4) Play 4E D&D just as practice for a while. Perhaps run some adventures from http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/9780786951390 just to get used to the system and the flow of adventures. 5) Yes a player can play an adventure more than once. A character cannot. Also DMs can play (as a player) adventures they have already judged. 6) In each adventure they describe the rules relating to character death. If after following those rules the character remains dead, its up to the player to go to thier list of characters and change that character to "Retired". |

You need to sanction them as D&D Home Game (campaign). 2) About Event reporting, I read the great RPGA FAQ and it answeared alot of questions but I'm wondering about this: For home games, as long as they are not playing characters used for Living Forgotten Realms (LFR), you don't need to worry about any of the above items. For LFR, you would record the XP gained during the LFR module, the change in gold that the character has had during the session (gold gained from the module minus any gold spent, for bribes, fines and bought items) Bundle IDs and Certificates refer to LFR-specific things. Many, if not most, LFR modules have predefined treasures available, listed as bundles, and story awards (favors, friends, quests started, etc.) listed as certificates. And the player can create their character(s) for the LFR campaign, and set any one of their characters as the "campaign default" character. Even with a default character set, the GM can still use a pull-down list of PCs to assign a module played to a different PC for that player. That sounds about right, although if you know of anyone "close by" who has spare DCI cards, that would be the quickest way to get them registered. A local gaming store that runs Friday Night magic, for example. They frequently have a large supply of extra DCI cards, and are usually happy to give a DM a handful on request. 4) Well I plan on starting with Home Events, try to recruit more and more RPGA memmbers/D&D Gamers and hopefully learn some of them to DM too^^ Post notes on bulletin boards, where available. Especially at local game stores, if they have a "players wanted" board; at local colleges and schools, maybe even at book and grocery stores. Run events at a local game store, if they have tables available. See if they would be willing to participate in the D&D World Wide Game Days. The next one is coming up on May 23rd, for the D&D 4th Edition Monster Manual 2 release, with a supplied adventure, and 5 pre-generated characters, possibly along with maps and minis for both the players and GMs involved. Setting up Yahoo, Google and Meetup groups. Getting a sign-up board on warhorn (warhorn.org temporarily, normally warhorn.net) 5) During Home Play events, is a player allowed to play the same adventure twice, with different chars on different days? Since it's not playing to win prices etc. For LFR, yes. For other game systems, it is more-or-less at DM's discretion, unless the campaign's rules say no. For instance, unless there is an update, an RPGA-sanctioned run of the Star Wars Saga Edition Dawn of Defiance campaign is a once-only event for the player. 6) How do you report char death? Pretty much not reported. There is a check-box on the character page that allows you to retire a character, but permanent death, especially in 4th Edition LFR, is pretty unlikely. Hope this helps you out! Marty |
