| #1litzApr 29, 2009 12:24:45 | So I was looking through the links of the RPGA log in page and it all seems centered on "Magic". The last time I was a RPGA player Magic wasn't even around, either was WotC. Anyway so I look through the stuff and am confused as to all the acronyms. What is:
I guess what I'm askin is like some kind of organizational structure. Most of the rules I seen was like this http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Events.aspx?x=judge/resources/shirt Since I am a "DCI Judge" as a D&D WPN gateway cordinator does this mean I have to wear funny clothes? There needs some clean-up I'm guessing on those links and rules to have distinction between the different products. In my opinion it should be focused on the products rather than the organization running it. In other words omit the DCI, WPN, RPGA, and WotC shananagins and call it for what product it is. |

Not entirely sure of this, but it seems to be what WotC's set up to sanction public play events. Looks to have been originally set up for Magic events. The reason for all of the confusion is that, over the past year or so, WotC has been gradually merging RPGA and DCI into one organization. What's happened is that they've moved a lot of the RPGA functions / databases into the existing DCI structure, which was originally created for Magic, and so, you do wind up with some oddities that don't feel like they fit quite right for D&D. |

I think the WPN is just the logical grouping of both the RPGA and DCI. WPN = WotC Organized Play. DCI = Collectible WotC Organized Play. RPGA = D&D (and Star Wars RPG) Organized Play. So WPN is just a "house" with two rooms - for RPGA and DCI. Other than that, I concur with your syynopsis. |
