| #1gc1ceoMar 12, 2009 20:02:11 | Are dungeon delves for a given month only allowed for that month, for example I got shipped January's and wondering if I could still run it for delve credit. |
| #2DeathMutantLivesMar 13, 2009 1:06:34 | Delve credit? For the store or the DM? AFAIK, DMs do not receive any credit for running Delves. ![]() |
| #3gc1ceoMar 13, 2009 2:09:40 | I.E are they valid for reporting if played outside of the month they are issued? |
| #4WolfStar76Mar 13, 2009 7:44:50 | I believe the delve dm credit issue has been resolved, and they do count now. |
| #5gc1ceoMar 15, 2009 22:15:27 | Anyway, back to my question of whatever I can run past month delves for credit or not? |
| #6gc1ceoMar 15, 2009 22:17:40 | I don't see an option for it, so guessing no (least in the practical sense). Of course technically you just report players and what not for a dungeon delve so technically it wouldn't matter which one you actually played. |
| #7Lord_DarquainMar 22, 2009 23:51:55 | Delves seem to work like this (right now): If you choose D&D Delve Night from the Event type menu you can sanction two months in advance to receive a physical kit. It is listed as being worth 1 point. If you choose D&D Delve Night - Download Only from the Event type menu you can sanction the current month's Delve for a pdf download only. It is listed as being worth 1 point. If you choose retail, home, or gameday from the Event type menu you can sanction the December or January Delves for download only. They are listed as being worth 0 points. Dustin, can you look into getting us points for previous delves and try to get Tower of Maraj (the Nov 08 lvl1 Delve) added to the sanction list? |
| #8festivusMar 23, 2009 0:41:31 | Actually, I'd like to see all the prior delves available for download. These are great for demonstrating 4E to new players. |
| #9Lord_DarquainMar 23, 2009 1:03:00 | Keep in mind that you're only demonstrating tactical encounters. Demonstrating roleplaying and skill encounters to new players is just as important. |

I'll add it to my report for the month - however I'm starting to think that, as older delves were recently mailed out as part of the Game Day Kit, any "Delving" is good enough to count for the month. Ideally, WotC wants you to run the delve-of-the-month, but I suspect the main reason for the monthly updates is to simply keep people who Delve consistently to not grow bored (to say nothing of a GM who runs Delves for different people every month). In short - my personal take on it is that "Delve" is a fairly generic event in the sanctioning database - it just happens to link to whatever the newest module is. ![]() I imagine if one wanted to schedule a Delve - then run encounters from the Dungeon Delve book, that would go over just as well. |

If this is true (which I hope it is), and can be made clear and simple during sign up, that would be fantastic. I fully support your delving policy. WotC_Dustin in '09! As it stands, I'm mentoring several new DMs and they're trying to follow the letter of the rules with their events, something I'm happy to support, and we don't understand why the Dec and Jan delves are in the RPGA sanction system at all, why the Nov one is missing, why they are 0 points, etc. It looks to me like a created-by-committee issue. I've put it into my report, and since Chris doesn't often reply directly (he's a busy BUSY man) I told him what I've reported here and that if he objects to what I said to let me know. In other words - if he doesn't say otherwise, I can't promise it will be made any clearer, but he'll be on the record as not minding that interpretation. ^_^ |

Oh trust me, I use the delve as only the encounter portion of the adventure. I still add on adventure that isn't tactical, perhaps even skill challenges. For example, the group tomorrow night will have to roleplay getting the job to head up to the mine, and then they have to skill challenge to find their way to the mine itself. Failure means that the kobolds had time to setup extra traps in the mine. One thing I didn't mention is that I am showing players new to 4E, not new to roleplaying. I have a table full of 8-14 year old kids at the next gameday, I fully expect to teach them all about roleplaying. |
| #14Lord_DarquainMar 23, 2009 11:31:48 | Cool. In addition to spicing up delves into adventures, you might want to look at non-LFR one shots like Return to the Moathouse and Treasure of Talon Pass for some interesting encounters for your players. |
