I was wondering how long it takes to receive pads of membership cards for signing up new members. I have a group that I would like to start running games, but I haven't received the cards I requested yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Good news is - you no long *need* the pads. You can now register new users and get them numbers on the Wizards Play Network.

Hey, Wolfstar ... Is that link for individuals to sign up for the RPGA/DCI/WPN? If you don't put in a DCI # (which it says is optional), do you get assigned one and is it sent to you via email?

I'm planning on running some LFR adventures at our local gaming store. They have a computer, so would this let me sign new players up the day of the event at the store?

I passed the Herald DM exam about 3 weeks ago and requested some membership cards which I still haven't received.

I am glad to see there is a way to get a DCI number online but I am a little confused as to how it works.

Do I need to fill out that form and then I will be given a way to sign up new players or do each of the players need to fill out that form? It says WPN stuff has to be played in a public location, can I still use this form to register players if I am running private home games?

Thanks

I haven't test it myself yet, but from Chris' instructions linked above (in Dragon Magazine) yes, it seems this gives you a new number.

Looking at the link, it appears to me that that is used for joining the WPN for running games, not as a player. I'm afraid of doing the wrong thing and signing up potential players that just want to play and not run games themselves.

I want to do it the old-fashioned way.

Look at it this way. You can't be an organiser without being a member.

Ergo, if that makes you an organiser, it has to make you a member first

I already am an organizer, but I want to get numbers for my players who don't want to be organizers. How do I do that?

Send an e-mail to the Wizards Play Network (dci@wizards.com). Give them your WPN number, let them know you want a pad of numbers for new players.

This takes 2-3 weeks.

I filled out that form 4 days ago and still haven't heard anything, so I'm not sure if the form isn't working or what. I finally gave up today and just got the DCI membership card with the scratch-off activation code from my FLGS today.

If you're trying to get a RPGA/DCI number, the membership card with the scratch-off activation code is the way to go. It's quick, easy, and it works.

Maybe I ought to try to score a DCI card and just play a different character under that account until my other account clears and I can try to merge them.

I tried WPN, but same here -- no answer so far.

Edit:
Well, WPN got back to me... but I still don't appear to have an account. Sigh.

I have put in requests over and over to get new membership cards, and I haven't received so much as the courtesy of an email back yet. I wouldn't hold your breath, guys.

I actually got a pretty timely reply from the WPN regarding my request for new RPGA cards. In that reply, I was told that new cards would be shipped in 5 - 10 days. That was two weeks ago, and still haven't seen the cards in the mail. However, I am still holding out hope that cards will arrive before my scheduled game on Saturday. If not, I'm not sure how I will proceed, since only one of my players has an RPGA/DCI number (and it took him a couple of weeks to get via the WPN registration process).

Hey, CAPT_Obvious ... if you have a FLGS near you, stop by and see if they have any of the DCI cards with the scratch-off activation codes. I'm sure most stores would let you have enough to sign up your new players.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dathalas. I tried two FLGS, but both were out of cards. They were also waiting for card shipments.

I sent in my first request for a pad cards on Sept. 9.

I received my first reply, requesting additional information, Sept. 17.

I received a second email on the 20th saying that they had been sent.

Overall the email exchanges were quick once they hit a real person and that person did a great job signing me up for everything that I had missed and making sure everything was ready.

I want to say "Thank you" to the person behind the DCI mailer who did that little extra.

My only problem is that 13 business days later, I'm still without cards and I have had to cancel an event. However, player interest is still there and I'm constantly being asked if the cards have arrived. As long as they don't take another month to arrive all should be happy.

I'll keep everyone posted.

This doesn't bode well for my home game this weekend. I guess I'll have to try a few more FLGS locations and see if they have DCI cards, but I'm starting to run out of options. If individual players register for the WPN, what is the typical turn around time to get numbers emailed out? I hate to make my group go through the hassle, since they have no intention of being organizers, but I might not have a choice.

I am in a similar boat, I ordered the cards, but I have not recieved an E-mail or anything and are on the verge of having to cancel an event as well.

Being in a similar situation, I will second that call for help. Anyone in the Baltimore area who has unused cards and is willing to part with them, please PM me.

Take heart, everyone. I had a pad of DCI cards arrive in the mail today. Perhaps yours will arrive soon as well.

Anybody know the answer to this?

I have a bunch of RPGA membership cards laying on my table. I received them a few months ago. They have 10 digit numbers on them. Are they good?

Well, no cards in the mail today. So barring any last minute attempts to get cards from a FLGS this evening, I'm out of luck and will have to cancel my event tomorrow. This is disappointing for me as a DM, but it also means I will have a harder time convincing my players to give the RPGA a try next time.

You shouldn't need to cancel the event, you can still schedule it in the system and then just put in the #'s at a later time when you go to "Report the Results" I've got several events I held weeks ago that I was still waiting on my DCI cards for. Now that I have them, I just need to enter the numbers and submit the report for the event.

You have 8 days to report an event without any problems.

Can I cancel after the event date passes without any problem? I mean if it looks like the cards won't make it to me in the 8 days. Because right now I have no clue when they will show.

I think so - there's a difference between 'cancelled' and 'did not occur' depending on whether you cancel the event before or after the date, but whether those are tracked separately, I don't know.

If I were you, I'd play, see if cards arrive within 7 days, and if they don't, mark the event as did not occur (you have to do that by clicking the box in the My Events list, I think), then re-order and report once the cards do. Of course this means getting contact details for your players so you can give them their cards when you get them!

You can, and then you could re-schedule it in the system for reporting after the cards arrive.

Any idea how to get if fixed if players you issued the new cards to will not still show up when you are trying to report? I have 2 that I am still having to type their names in every time.

You will have to type their names in every time until the cards get to WotC and are manually entered into the database, I think, or until the players log in and provide their details, or a combination of both, or until the stars are correctly aligned. The system is very poorly at the moment, it seems!

A) I dont think they mailed the cards in.

B) They are both already signed up for rewards points and will be getting some cards in the next mailing

Hmmm what to do what to do

Technically it is the Senior GM of their first event's job to get the membership application forms to WotC, I think.

They may have some luck contacting customer services (http://wizards.custhelp.com) and explaining the problem. It's clear that there's a systematic problem, though.

Ok just checking some stuff here...as it took 3 months to finally get my cards...and I got sent DCI ones...So I take it that by sending me these there is no difference anymore or what?

I ask this because I have one or two pen and paper old school people who want nothing to do with 'card flippin' heh

So do I use the DCI cards or do I have to wait another 3 months for RPGA ones? Or can I just use some web based page to set them up?

There is no difference. There i now one player number for RPGA/DCI. Old RPGA will still work, but for new players DCI is what you get.
Also, the scratch-off DCI cards are the easiest way to get signed up.

Because you do not have to mail them in. You can finish the registration process online with these cards!
