| #1aerostothMay 23, 2008 23:09:39 | I am currently unable to participate in official RPGA events fully because of my age (14), but I am trying to go as far in as I can: What should I do? Are there any events that do not have an age requirement (or have one that I meet)? |

An individual event (such as a game day) might have a self-imposed minimum age, but that'd be at the discretion of the Senior GM for that event (and about the only reason I can think of is that the Senior GM just decides that he doesn't want to play with kids). I've been at RPGA conventions with players as young as 9 or 10. I've seen a fairly small number of RPGA modules with what would be considered "mature" content; they typically contain specific advice to the GM to tone down the content if there are kids present at the table. RPGA rules do keep you from being able to become a Herald-level GM (which would allow you to set up your own events) until you're 18. AFAIK, that's the only RPGA-imposed restriction you should face due to your age. |

This restriction does not apply to Xen'drik Expeditions or any of the other aspects of the RPGA. I hope that the LFR administrators do not bring that added restriction across to the new campaign: it is not part of the RPGA general rules (anyone trusted/chosen by a Senior GM can be a session GM, per those rules) and seems to be an unnecessary exclusion. |

It is a legal issue for WoTC as they do collect personal information (like mailing address) of their members and so need a parent's consent for minors. You can be a member, just can't take the Herald level test, at your age. Also, there are a few mods which have content that isn't appropriate for some audiences. There is an option to tone things down. It is rare though, as the writer's guidlines insist on a PG rating if you will. Can't have G 'cause we are killing things and taking their stuff, after all. |
