| #1gamersgambitOct 28, 2008 9:47:12 | I have a question: How many people reading these boards are DMs and/or players whose first real experience with the RPGA happened after 4E came out/with the new Living Forgotten Realms? Ancillary Questions: How many people have tried a 4E / Living Forgotten Realms RPGA event that have at one point tried earlier RPGA events and are impressed with the changes for the better? |

I am however impressed with the increased freedom given LFR GMs and Players, the removal of the silly region and time systems. I don't like the limit on found magic items, though... I guess the fact that almost all material is allowed for players now makes up for it somewhat, though. |
| #3telvin3dOct 28, 2008 11:18:20 | I got back into D&D a few months ago after years of not playing. This is my first experience with the RPGA. I have become a herald and am really enjoying myself. On the other hand, some of the RPGA stuff that is frankly amateurish is really starting to bug me. |
| #4eldric_ivOct 28, 2008 14:43:14 | My first experience with the RPGA was judging a LFR module. I signed up to play at my local gamestore. I joined the mailing list a few days before the event and found out that I was player #21 for a mod with 3 judges. I basically had the choice of not playing or of becoming a judge and running a game so others could play (our senior DM prefers that only judges who pass the Herald test run modules because of the significant rules changes between 3.5 and 4e). Of course, it makes me wary that someone who had never attended any RPGA function in his life* can become a Herald DM on a whim (with a test that only questions whether you have the books and can use an index, as I had not read the books prior to taking the test), show up on game day, and judge a module. *I have a DCI number from playing in Magic tournaments so the merged databases automatically made me an RPGA member. |
| #5fiupntballrOct 28, 2008 14:50:39 | I started playing back in the Living City Days I really got into Living Arcanis and was an original member of the dev team until School and Life started taking too much time. I had quit playing LG a while back as I could not deal with all the paper work hassles... I called it Living Trapper Keeper... I'm now back and playing and am really loving this.. I hope to get on my horse and finish up a mod that I have outlined which I think could be alot of fun. I have an iteresting puzzle idea from my GF that I tested out as a twist when I ran Barrow of the Ogre King... Ok im way off topic... Yes I played before.... |
| #6Keith53Oct 28, 2008 18:18:56 | I have been an RPGA member since 1981 and been DMing at cons since 1991. I played/DMed LC, LD, LF, LG, and LFR. I guess you could say I am seasoned. :D Keith |
| #7monadOct 28, 2008 23:46:50 | I've been playing since mid 2nd edition, but Weekend in the Realms was my first experience with the RPGA. Once my membership is finally processed I'd like to get into DMing as well as being a player, so I'm quite thankful that the rules have been relaxed regarding DMs not being able to play modules that they've previously run. |

| #9ibixatOct 29, 2008 0:26:17 | I've been playing D&D off and on since 1984 when my best friends dad or older brother ran games for us. I'll never forget when I leared about drow in game by dropping a fireball on a group of them and only hitting one for half damage =P. In recent years it's been mostly off, by not keeping up with the books for 3.5 I lost track of the game and really never had as many opportunities to play since I had moved to a new state. Recently I had started playing in a 3.5 game with my supervisor at work and some of our mutual friends, one of them told me about WITR and that was the first time I've ever played an RPGA event, I had so much fun on saturday I went back sunday to play all 3 parts again. That was also my first time being able to play 4.0. I'm even signed up for a local con for next weekend for all 5 available slots to play again. The GM from sunday let me look over the module after we were done, I've taken the herald test and look forward to actually trying to run a few games now as well. |
| #10warfteinerOct 29, 2008 8:28:57 | I've played D&D since the early 90s, but only recently (the last three years or so) have I done anything with RPGA events. I ran two groups through Xen'drik Expeditions, but turned down the Living Greyhawk nastiness. Too much paperwork, too many restrictions - it's a game about freedom of thought and exploration! But 4th... I'm enjoying LFR and I'm really enjoying the encouraged DM freedom - especially after LG. I ran EAST1-1 at GenCon 6 times and every experience was different, from the location of an encounter that most parties missed to how they dealt with the room of trapped... stuff... I really got into it, as a DM, and how I was encouraged to use the party and their decisions to shape the future of the individual adventure. All in all, I'm really digging LFR and very much looking forward to continuing to DM it! |
