I have just sold my core rule books for v. 3.5 to a relative. This is because I thought the RPGA would become v. 4. If and when will it become v 4. according to the website its v. 3.5 to test in to become a gm. Which is what I'm interested in. I could pass the exam easily, but without the 3.5 books I wouldn't be able to host any games. Thanks for all the help .

I'm looking into wpn. There was an article that referenced it that just came out.

RPGA has been totally converted to 4th edition as off GenCon 3 weeks ago. Currently the old 3.5 campaigns, Living Greyhawk & Xen'drik Expeditions, have finished. No new modules will be released and they won't be hosted on big RPGA conventions, the old modules can be run until the end of the year.

The new 4th edition Living Forgotten Realms campaign is on the way and the first batch of adventures has been released. More campaigns are planned for the coming years but nothing has been officially announced about them.

Although the website says there is only a 3.5 test there is a 4th edition test as well. Currently a lot of things are changing, because Wizards has merged the support for Magic and DnD in the same system to provide both with the same aides. WPN is the name for that but more information regarding it has yet to be released.

I haven't gone to look for it, but one of my players just took (and passed) the 4E Herald test, so I know its there.

On the other hand, I got a two emails from her before she took it: the first saying that she couldn't find it - all she could find was the 3.5 test, and the second saying 'nevermind, I found the 4E test'.

From this I conclude that there IS a 4E test and that it might be a bit tricky to find it.

So I'd say go look again.

Both tests are available in the Judge Center - or they were last time I looked. ~shrug~

As I understand it if you are already a Harold GM then you don't have to re-take the test... However, I am interested in taking it just to verify my knowledge of 4.0 rules. Are there any negative repercussions to taking it for these reasons, like if I don't pass it I can't sanction events!!!

Can this be clearly verified by an authoritative source?

If I remember correctly, it was stated a while back, by an authoritative source that:

1) If you are already a Herald level GM (or higher), you wouldn't need to retest for 4th Ed.

2) If you are already certified as a Herald level GM (or higher), your results from taking the 4th Ed Herald test would not affect your certification.

And, since I took the 4th Ed test a while back, mainly as a practice test since I am already registered as both levels of GM available, the test is available, and is listed on the test creation page, under Dungeons & Dragons, in the Judge Center.

Login to the member area, then click on the "Judge Center" item in the "My Links" list on the right-hand side. On the Judge Center page that that brings up, click on "Exams" in the link list on the left-hand side. On this page, click on the "Create" tab.

Choose "RPGA Dungeons & Dragons" in the game list on the left. On mine, that brings up English as the only language choice.Once it does that, just click on the "Next" button. That should bring up a list of 3 possible tests, hopefully soon to be 4. ;)

4th Edition Herald
3.5 Edition Herald
3.5 Edition Master

It will also show you when you can next take that test again. Both Herald tests show as available to me, since it has been longer than the test delay time since I last took either one, and the Master test shows me a date in 2013, since I took it a while back and passed it...

Just click on the name of the test you want to take, and it will create it for you. Next screen shows "You will be the candidate for this exam. We will try to show you questions you haven't seen before." and a "Back" and "Finish" button. The finish button creates the test, and puts you onto the "View" tab, where the bottom left has a link to "Take Exam" and a button to "Cancel Exam", if you need it.

20 question test, 60 minutes timed, 95% correct required to pass.

Good luck!

So if I understand you, I can go and take the 4E test and it will have no affect on my current standing?

That's what we were told by Ian Richards, yes.

I'll double check that it's not going to restrict you as it sees you've already passed a Herald test. Other than that taking the test and failing won't reset your level to zero honest ;)

I wonder if this might be the reason some of us are being "upgraded" from master level to herald in the system. If you currently have a master level but then take the 4.0 test, does the system think that is the latest and greatest? I know it shouldn't but I am curious if that is what it does.

No, I am shown as Master level, and took the 4E Herald test shortly after it first came out. I retook the 4E Herald test a day or two ago, and am still showing as Master level...

Now, if only it would stop showing me as inactive when I am sanctioning events...

No, there was simply an error in the DCI/WPN/RPGA database that reset many of us from Master to Herald. A quick e-mail to WPN (dci@wizards.com) with your number, explaining that you've been downgraded should be all it takes to get you back up to Master.

Worked for me in about 8 hours (on a business day).
