| #1_Mithreinmaethor_Dec 07, 2008 12:08:14 | I have tried to setup a Gameday and a Retail game and I get the same error message: "You currently do not have any approved locations for sanctioning this type of event. Please contact the DCI/RPGA to set up an approved location." So are we requred to setup those kind of play types only if they are approved by the DCI/RPGA? I was able to order and report the game as a home game. Its just odd that this is done this way now. *** Please excuse my dyslexia in the title *** |

| #3jeffvDec 08, 2008 11:26:23 | Retail events, game days, and conventions are required to be in a public place, like a game store or something. Many people use student centers at colleges, libraries, etc. (It's the same way with sanctioned and rated Magic tournaments.) The way the DCI/RPGA enforces this is to only allow you to sanction these types of games in approved locations. You have to set up your approved locations with the DCI/RPGA ahead of time to run events there, and you can do that by contacting Customer Service at http://wizards.custhelp.com. You're free to run home games wherever you like, as you've found out. |
| #4_Mithreinmaethor_Dec 08, 2008 13:07:12 | I can understand that. Except I ordered events like 4 days apart. And the system changed in that 4 days. I have ordered retail games at this location for the last 3 years. Then this Sunday all of a sudden I can not set a retail game up. It doesnt even let me enter the name of the location. I choose retail and click next and I get the above error. Just saying that if they were going to change this they could have put out a notice or something. |
| #5jeffvDec 08, 2008 13:17:57 | It shouldn't have changed... it's been like that for me ever since the DCI and RPGA combined. I've been running both DCI and RPGA events at the same game store for many years, though, so the store I use has always been in my list of approved locations for retail games. |

I've been running both DCI and RPGA events at the same game store for many years, though, so the store I use has always been in my list of approved locations for retail games. I have never had a list of approved locations. No matter what type of game I was sanctioning (retail, game day etc) I have always just had to type the name and information in for the location. It worked like last monday for me this way, but Sunday when I went to add an event we threw together last second I got the above error. I have tried again today to just see if it was a glitch Sunday. But it still gives me this error. |
| #7AlphastreamDec 08, 2008 15:16:28 | Could you be ordering a retail-only event that requires the use of an approved DCI-blessed store, such as the monthly Delve? The delves require a store that is on the DCI list. Teos |
| #8demonlordd1Dec 08, 2008 16:22:51 | I have encountered the same problem. I try to sanction a gameday like usual and now when i select the event-type and press next, i get the same error-message. I tried everything and only home events are not giving me this error. I sent a mail to RPGA support and they referred me to the local rpga responisbles. |
| #9_Mithreinmaethor_Dec 08, 2008 16:36:23 | We dont play the Delves. Only LFR. |
| #10nicodemus_dupDec 09, 2008 0:15:38 | I discovered I have the same problem now. Didn't used to be so. But I did find a work-around. Normally, you should still be able to sanction home games. When sanctioning home games, you have to add a location. After adding my FLGS as a location for my home game, that location was available to select when I tried to sanction a game day event. This doesn't solve it for the Retail event though. |
| #11pedrDec 09, 2008 4:53:25 | The DCI system, prior to merge, required pre-registered locations for DCI events (all of which have to be in public places, I think). When the systems were merged, the system required RPGA events to be held at pre-registered accounts. Ian Richards mentioned that this was a system error, and it was fixed, to the system which worked until a few days ago: you got a drop down list and the option to add a new location. It appears that recently the system has changed to be closer to the old system. You can still add new locations for Home events, but not for Retail, Game Day, or Convention. I find it odd that this took place while - unless I'm mistaken - Ian Richards is on paternity leave. I have sent an email to the DCI (and the UK office) asking for an explanation. If I get a reply (I'm not holding my breath!) I'll pass things on. The problem, of course, is that DCI judges/TOs are informed (I expect) of the process to add new locations. I can guess that the answer is 'email dci@wizards.com', but whether that's the right course of action, I don't know! I do wonder who exactly is calling the shots at WotC, though - Ian appears to have the title 'Head of Organized Play', but things seem to keep happening without his knowledge, or in circumstances where I cannot imagine he made the decision (such as merging the databases prior to GenCon, which meant he had to stay in Renton to sort out the teething problems). |
| #12pedrDec 09, 2008 18:14:59 | I received a reply from "John" at the WPN. According to him, this is not an error. Without announcing it to anyone, it is now policy to require Game Day, Convention, and Retail locations to be registered. This is "So that we can publish the location of public Dungeons and Dragons events in our Event Locator". I think that if you want to add a location, emailing dci@wizards.com (and/or your local DCI office). I'm trying to get confirmation that this is the correct procedure from the WPN. |
