Oh wait, all but one have been locked, and for good reason.
1) It will not happen (at least not at this GenCon, I am sure that a 5e will happen eventually). They aren't announcing new stuff until tomorrow, but from previous experience, if it was going to be announced at GenCon, it would already be known.
2) This thread will be locked or poofed before it reaches a second page. Because it will devolve into edition warring long before then.

I am one of the people hoping for some kind of announcement along these lines, my preference being a new Basic D&D to co-exist alongside 4E, and even I thought "Hell no they didn't" when I read the thread title.
I think that's what they were trying for with Essentials. Whther they succeeded or not is a mtter of opinion. Whether it was a good idea or not is a matter of opinion. However, I doubt they would try again so soon regardless.
