| #1Storyteller-ZeroMay 31, 2012 13:55:38 | Has any third party person/group ever made and published a game that revolves around the d20 mechanic but is not derived from open game content? A d20 game that is similar to DnD but is not compatible with any of its editions? Has anyone done this? It's theoretically possible since the dice mechanic (roll d20, plus bonuses, vs. a DC) itself is not copyrightable and the opportunity for patenting a game like DnD is long gone back in the early days of Chainmail. Does anyone know? I've been curious about this since discussion about copyright law popped up in the forums somewhat recently. |

A d20 game that is similar to DnD but is not compatible with any of its editions? What about, every other RPG that arent D&D? Dice + bonus VS target DC is pretty basic in many RPG. But i think it's out of topic, this board is for DnD next. |

Not entirely out of topic. If other d20 mechanic games are out there, they might have interesting ideas that can be adapted into the DnD Next design. EDIT: Well moved to another forum anyway. So yeah if anyone can name a d20 mechanic game like I mentioned, please share here. |
