| #1bykov1Jun 26, 2009 17:31:36 | I am finishing up running our group through a modified Eyes of the Lich Queen for the now level 17-20 characters. Depending on if they are able to accomplish all the goals set before them (plus a few others that have been added to the adventure), I have developed a scenario which would lead to Fang Crater going Super-Mega-Volcano on them (the crater is 350 mi in diameter approximately, so much larger than our tiny earth bound calderas) as the link to fiernia is re-established. This thought process has made me curious, what other catastrophes have DM/GM's out there imposed onto their active gaming realm? Looking forward to describing the pyroclastic cloud of my PC's making, Bykov. |

It was engineered so that no matter if they defeated the BBEG it would happen. However I gave them a sense of glory in that it was definitely possible to beat the boss the problem was that there would be two bosses and, depending on how they got to the end they could fight either or attempt both but if they weren't defeated at the same time cataclysm. The only way to defeat both would have been to split the party but in doing so their chances to win would go down to almost nothing. I had spent the whole campaign letting them get free reign to do whatever they wished and witness the consequences of their actions as the doomsday came closer and closer. In doing so they were prepared to make a tough decision at the end. Now that its come and gone I'm planning on having a follow up campaign based in a world where the living dead hold the world. I pulled out the big guns in using Orcus and Atropos in the same campaign ^.^. |

Nice...now was this a Night of the Living Dead sort where all the dead rose up or was it turning the living into the walking dead......or yes. >:-) |

You should find plenty of scientific speculation by googling super volcanoes and Yellowstone. You bet! I have done some major research. I was more refering to the size. Fang Crater is significantly larger than Yellowstone or Toba. So much so, that this eruption would make a VEI (Volcanic Eruption Index) 8 look like an M80. There are 3 potential outcomes I see: 1) Total Party Kill. I really hope not, but at times the party can be scatterbrained to the point of their own detriment. In which case, the potential two party members that can regenerate may (if they aren't dead-dead) awaken as sh*t starts going south. 2) They defeat the big bad but miss the lurking Blood of Vol Agent (Advanced Dread Wraith Ephemeral Exemplar) sent to start the fiery ball rolling. Earthquakes will start rolling when they are in middle of collecting their spoils. 3) They defeat the big bad and the agent. Then everything is a happy happy world. I really don't think they will see *THIS* coming. :-) |
