| #1kelb_havocMar 17, 2009 2:50:59 | I don't know if this is the right place for this, but here goes. I have, on occasion, wondered about integrating some of the things in the d20 modern and standard dungeons and dragons systems. One of the biggest hurdles I've hit on this idea is trying to convert the wealth check system into gp values and vice-versa. I'm also slowly working on integrating the starwars saga system's mechanics for "The Force" into a homebrew d&d world, though that has proven much easier. I'm posting this thread to try and get some help from anyone who's interested in the same general idea. Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions. |

The wealth system of d20 modern however is a huge beast of a thing. Depending on how your running your campaign you might not need to use it, it might be allowed to be a separate thing on it's own as lines of credit and the like. Do you have d20 past? That might help. |

| #6elondirMar 24, 2009 8:14:56 | I have always integrated D20 Modern into D&D, as far back as the 90's mixing AD&D 2e with the various RPGs of its day (Alternity, Gamma World, Buck Rodgers, Star Wars, Mechwarrior, Shadowrun, Rifts, etc.). Masque of the Red Death and Chronomancer were useful in that regard. I got past the wealth DCs with the Modern and Future Price guides, available at Paizo's web store. They come in very handy, and the modern one is based on real world prices. I find that overall everything converts very nicely. However, the classes and spells behave slightly differently between D20 Modern and D&D. Depending on your mix ratio, I would favor one system over the other wrt classes and spells. Good books to explain the crossover are D20 Apocalypse (for D&D with D20 Future elements) and Urban Arcana (for D20 Modern with D&D elements). The Cthulu book is also handy. My game world is a D&D world with D20 Future added. It explains the D20 Future stuff as being an alien colony that was abandoned 24000 years ago, leaving it there. So the PCs have to repair tech stuff they find with a repair check DC 50+ (we are talking about repairing 24000 year old blaster pistols and mecha here), and they have to find 1d4-1 identical items (or reasonably similar ones) for parts to do it. That keeps most of the tech as museum pieces, but the PCs can get a few useful items out of it. Crafting items requires training in the apprpriate D20 Modern skill, which requires locating and studying surviving textbooks (written in the alien languate). Textbooks are rare enough that the PC's either have to explore dungeons to find them or somehow gain access to the ones that have been recovered. Recovered textbooks are generally ultra-high security national secrets that nations are willing to go to war over. So far nobody's been able to craft anything above PL 4 successfully, and only PL 3 reliably, due to the complexity of construction techniques, difficult translation, and prerequisite skills from other textbooks. For example, you can learn physics without a calculus book but it's a lot harder. Now extrapolate that up to PL 8 where nanotechnology meets biology meets string theory, just as a background primer for the engineering discussed in the book. |
