#1 sgtsunshine Jul 04, 2010 19:59:14	Alright, I picked up the first three core rule books for fourth edition about two months ago, I've read through the first players handbook and am attempting to understand the DM guide but its like trying to do trigonometry without having a teacher. I've tried two games with a couple of friend's but it's near impossible. I went and talked to a guy at a local game store and he said he may be able to get me into a game to see how it runs and try it out with people who know what their doing. Can anyone give me some sites to look up or anything that may help in learning just to PLAY the game before I attempt to host one for freinds? I've been wanting to play for about two years now.  I understand the base rules, most of combat, when to use different checks with modifiers, skill challenges and such, but I need to learn when and how to use them the right way. Seriously, if anyone can get me some help, like how to play a game over the internet or something, that'd be awesome and really appreciated.
#2 7he_professor Jul 11, 2010 7:57:42	For future reference, creating three seperate threads with the exact same question actually hurts more than it helps To be quite honest, the best way to learn how to play is to just play.  Meaning you sit down with some people and hash it out.  If the guy at the local gaming store can get you into an existing campaign, jump at that opportunity.  If that option doesn't end up panning out, just invite some good friends over that won't complain about your lack of understanding and just do it.  If you make it a group activity to learn this new game, it may be much more enjoyable. Also, in my experience, playing over the internet fails miserably.  Play-by-post was the most commonly used format and is far too slow for my taste, not to mention the lack of socialization (which is a huge selling point for tabletop gaming in my groups) Either way...just my 2 cp.
