The 7 power sources renamed disciplines are
Arcane Druidic Elemental Faith Illusion Martial Psionics
each ranges from 1 to 7; their levels are used to cost skills or powers, like in:
rank -- abilities cost 7 ------ 1 6 ------ 2 5 ------ 3 4 ------ 4 3 ------ 5 2 ------ 10 1 ------ 20
the 7 disciplines are multiplied, one with another, from 1^7 to 7^7 with holes removed ( that is to say, 11, 13, 17, 19, 22, 23 and so on can't be found in multiplying multiples of 1 to 7 )
each value from the left gives 1 character point, while each value to the right is the result of a multiplication :
suppose a 3rd level character with multiplication is equal to 98, and 45 character points
98=7x7x2x1x1x1x1
45 points can be used to purchase skills or powers ( s o p ) in any discipline, with costs depend on the rank value, like in
rank 7 discipline costs are 1 for each s o p, rank 7 discipline costs are 1 for each s o p, rank 2 discipline costs are 10 for each s o p, and 4 rank 1 discipline costs are 20 for each s o p.
1 1 76 252 ---------------- 720 254016===>48th level |

I think you have something interesting here, but I'm not sure it's very balanced. According to your system, a character with a 2 in every discipline would have a total value of 128, giving them 53 character points and making them nominally stronger than the 45-point character in your example... but all their skills and powers cost 10 each, giving them 5 powers total, which is a lot less than the example character's potential 45 powers.
Or is the idea that you're always supposed to start off with at least one discipline at rank 7, and then as you level up you gain access to more and more disciplines over time? |
