#4 Mand12 Oct 12, 2011 12:34:09	Also, would you care to specify what you mean when you say "all the signs"?  Sure.  A string of events viewed through the lens of an already-held belief.  Events which are in agreement with the belief are trusted and valued, events which are in conflict are dismissed.  It's a psychological reality, testable and measurable, that people do this.  Even smart people.  And it's the basis for pretty much every rumor that has ever existed.

Also, would you care to specify what you mean when you say "all the signs"?  Well, Margaret Weiss is not some random internet dude. With the signs I mean: 1) R&D department asked CharOp forum in the spring about what works and what doesn't work in 4e. They haven't issued any errata based on that feedback so I assume it was asked for designing 5e. 2) Mike Mearls's and Monte Cook's columns discuss D&D design philosophy in such manner that it is indicative of designing another edition instead of honing the current one. 3) Hiring of Monte Cook itself speaks volumes. 4) 4e has pretty much exhausted interesting splat book ideas. They'll have to publish a new edition soonish to keep the money flowing. If they have begun designing 5e this year, 2014 is the probable publication year since designing 4e also took 3 years. 6 years is a good run for an edition. The days of 10 year editions are in the past.

Well, I guess it's no use trying to convince you, but I'll remember this thread and say "told you so" when the time comes.
#8 oxybe Oct 12, 2011 16:24:25	i'm not saying 5th ed won't come. i've survived 2 edition changes and i knew there would be a 5th eventually.  all i'm saying is until i hear actual words of "we're working on 5th ed" from, you know, people actually working on a 5th edition, i don't see how someone saying "a friend of a friend of mine said..." is counted as credible information.
#9 warrl Oct 12, 2011 17:58:28	I will say that I've seen quite a number of ideas - some from Mearls and Cook, some from the forum posters, even some from me - that I said "Hm, that might work if it's designed into the architecture of a new edition but OH PLEASE DO NOT try to bend the existing framework of 4E to make room for it!" (Unfortunately, the Essentials movement of role from hierarchically above class to a parallel factor adjacent to class, and the later introduction of the subclass, are among those ideas.)

#12 Steel_Rabbit Oct 13, 2011 17:28:11	Monte Cook coming back doesn't really do anything for me. I can't recall a single thing he's done that's singled him out for me. I mean, I know he worked on 3e, but that's it. No offense to Monte Cook, I just don't think this is a return to the "golden times."  I hope if this means that there's a 5e coming out that they don't go back to the era of a million supplements, that clog up my game like what was done in the past.
