Question time: What's a former gamer too do with no group and a wife that glares at him whenever he even mentions trying to find one?

Well, firstly, you're probably going to have a LONG talk with the missus about why she gives you the look every time you want to practice a hobby.

I've attempted to. Her response is usually along the lines of "I want you to have your silly little hobbies".

Been actually wondering if I should just get DDi and try to find on a group to join on the VTT. I'll at least be home and able to communicate with the wife when a game is going on... However, she hates computers too...  Odd couple we are.

It sounds to me like you have some things to work out with your wife before you try to take up any kind of regular hobby.

Yep, but I was hoping to find a way around it.

I had/have a similar experience, although my wife is really not hostile about it.  YMMV, but a few years ago I decided to get back into the game and I said this is what I am doing, I have played D&D for many years before I knew you, and you know I enjoy it; like it or not, it is my hobby and it makes me happy, so either support my decision to play or get out of the way.

It was more diplomatic than that, and there have been heated moments, but we basically have an agreement that we both get our fun time; she likes to go out dancing with her girlfriends and I like RPing, so she is usually doing that while I am doing my thing.

It actually works out well for her as I play at home (used to have a group over but currently running an online game) and I am here with our young kids, so she does not need to get a sitter.

I suggest working out some type of compromise like this; you get your time, she gets hers, and everyone is happy.

You don't want your wife glaring at you, do you?  See, easy answer.

How long have you been married?  If it's only been  a few years - or even 10 - you might still be in that stage where you need to do 'everything' together.  You'll probably get through that, eventually, and start having separate activities, again.  She'll apreciate her bookclub or yogo or pilates or girl's night or whatever, and while she's doing that, you can go find a group with a schedule that matches...

...part of staying together is getting away from eachother some of the time.

JMHO in 21 years of marriage.
