WOTC missed the boat!

I write this not as a way to complain about my favorite game
but does it make me angry how things turned out. As I said WOTC and therefore
Dungeons & Dragons missed the boat in a major way. I will provide these
three examples to prove my point:

Lord of the Rings Movies
MagiQuest Live
World of Warcraft

These represent the best of their genre in the industry.
LoTR is by far the best movies ever made for the fantasy world. WOW is the best
(I know there are wow haters but face it millions disagree everyday) fantasy
MMO ever. MagiQuest live is new but such an enjoyable place for the whole
family to go and pay a lot of money to essentially LARP about fantasy world.

In my opinion all of this should have been led and rolled
out by my beloved D&D! But instead we get horrible movies with the brand
(Wrath of the Dragon God worst ever in a line of sad disappointments),
D&D online would have been the best MMO ever if this was 1990 and
the closest thing to the live and fun MagiQuest is a two
hour game at your local gaming store every Wednesday.

If D&D had done things correctly and led the fantasy
world industry as they should have, they could have made real quality films and
who knows maybe even had Peter Jackson do his magic on some of the films,
imagine if he had directed Wrath of the Dragon God! Imagine if D&D had
developed an MMO like blizzard did before there was even a blizzard around.
Can you imagine playing MMO in Krynn or
Forgotten Realms and the whole of the realms been created in rich detail like
Azeroth was? Finally, imagine taking the whole family or all your friends to go
LARP at the MagiQuest like store for D&D and while there the store would be
selling their books and miniatures like hot cakes getting troves of new players
all the time.

I know it’s hard to say that beforehand who knew these
three items I listed were going to be so successful, but as the leaders of the
world of fantasy role play, D&D should have been the leaders not the
followers.

D&D is the best in its industry.  You said yourself that it's the leader of fantasy role play.  Sorry that's not enough for you.

People have different visions.  What you described are different people having different visions.  D&D has gone a long way in inspiring those visions.  The fact that people have access to the examples you provide should be enough.  Does it really matter who provides them?

WotC would need considerably larger sums of money in order to put a project into place as you suggest where they are the key financial backer (except the LARP thing - but honestly that's a niche market of a niche market)

..,(Wrath of the Dragon God worst ever in a line of sad disappointments),
..,

As bad as Wrath of the Dragon God is, the worst D&D movie ever, I say it's the second worst.  The all time worst D&D movie is the animated Dragonlance movie.

But since I do not play MMO's or LARP, I can't relate to what you are posting.

This.

WotC is a RPG and CCG card company.  They simply do not have the assets, either financially or in terms of personnel, to do what the OP is asking.  And, frankly, I'd rather they just spend their time and money on RPGs and CCGs than movies and MMOs.

(If LotR is 'the best fantasy movie ever', the bar must not be set very high anyway ...)
