Hey so I have a question. I am currently playing 4e but my DM wants to try to use 5e. I prefer to play Lycanthrope characters. I want to know if this is still possible in 5e and if these builds are good ideas in your opinions.

I currently have:

Julius

14 Pit Fighter

Werecrocodile

Hide Armor

War Pick

Caesar

14 Ranger Beast Stalker

Wererat

Ghostphase Armor

Crossbow (Main)

Mace (for when things get close and personal)

Lithanis

12 Bloodmage

Wereboar

Cloth Armor

Dagger

Wand

I want to know if these are good ideas. I have three characters because the DM is currently between 3 different campaigns. And I also like to have an assortment of classes.

Just play what you want man. Don't fret over builds. 5e has some obvious standouts, but it went to great lengths to make sure nothing was "bad". You could take linguist for every feat as a fighter and still deal good damage just because you are a fighter.

5e is still VERY early and at the moment we have very limited option
.

In 5e, by the rules in the monster manual, Lycanthrope are do not give you +5 Dex, it set your dex to 16. instead.

Then IIRC werecrocodile are not published yet, so your DM willl have to create that one.

Then those class option are not available yet, so your DM will have to create a "bloodmage" subclass or you'll have to take the closest match to the PHB available class and subclass.

I have no clue how your build work, so I cannot comment on how powerfull they can be, but you might want to double check, because 5e DOES have a lot of trap for new players giving them "really bad option" able to cripple their character. Like taking Linguistic on every level of your fighter you'll quickly fall behind in damage compare to the fighter taking proper feat like Great Weapon fighting or +2 Strenght. 5e got very limited customizable option, but those option have huge repercution on your character.

For example, at level 4 you can choose 1 feat OR +2 to 1 stats OR +1 to 2 stats. Withiin the feat choose you got the RP feat like skilled (+3 skill profiency), Linguist and weapon master (+4 weapon profiency) which are USELESS feat for combat optimization, or you got power house feat like crossbow expert giving you an extra attack with a hand crossbow, plus the ability to shoot with a crossbow in melee combat without penalty and ignore the reload property, or Great weapon master giving you the ability to do an additional attack when you crit or kill someone AND adding +10 damage at the cost of -5 to hit. or Polearm Master which give you an new way to activate your reaction when an enemy aproach you AND an additonal attack usign the other end of your polearm weapon etc...

I have no experience with lycanthrope monsters as PCs, but you might be interested in the Shifters from the recent Unearthed Arcana Eberron.  They're kinda half- or quarter-lycanthropes that can tap into their heritage to gain a trait for 1 minute between rests, such as a climb speed, increased AC, or a bite attack.

Also, any builds from prior editions are going to be mostly irrelevant in this edition.

Agreed on looking to shifters for were-people. If you really want the abilities those races confer, like grappling and such, there are ways to get something similar. You can also multiclass Druid for transforming, or rely on the wizard's polymorph spell.

There is really nothing that looks like the Blood Mage power to sacrifice life for more damage. It's a pretty easy house rule, though. You might want to make a homebrew tradition for the wizard that has a feature like that. You may consider copying features of the Death domain for clerics (in the DMG) to fill out the remaining features.

The other classes don't have anything that really stands out to me. They'd be a fairly standard fighter (probably Battlemaster) and ranger.

Thank you for the replies they helped alot. I think I'll probably look into this "Shifter" thing. Is it a race or a class?

Also the Bloodmage and Beast Stalker are paragon paths for wizard and ranger respectivley. I kinda expected the paragon paths to change.

Yeah shifter is the way to go mainly because being a straight up lycanthrope makes you immune to weapon damage that isn't from silver weapons. I might actually make up a thread in general chat about making lycanthropes a little more reasonable.

Ok. So far I'm liking 4e better. I don't nessacarily like how they took out paragon paths...

By the way does anyone know a place in Indiana where I can get a copy of 4e Players Handbook 2? sorry to go off topic.

Also what is the best build options for a Bard? if they are still in 5e.

Keep playing 4e. D&D 5e is not for you. Once Lycanthropes or Vampires become an 'option' for players in 5e it will have lost its way...
