Abjurer's shield

I don't have my phb in front of me so my wording may be a bit off.  If a wizard takes the adjurer track, they receive a shield that can soak damage.  When I was reading the description, it said that if the shield reaches 0, it can be recharged through the casting of abjuration spells.  However, at no point does the shield state that it has a maximum number of hit points that it can be recharged to.  A friend of mine pointed out that alarm is a rital abjuration, thereby allowing a wizard to cast the spell over and over again, adding to the abjuration shield (from my recollection it would be 2 hp/10 min).

When the shield is created, it has 2*wizard level + int mod = hp and I told him that we should consider that the maximum # of hp the shield can be recharged to.

Thoughts?

Yup.

Every time you cast an abjuration spell, the shield recharges, but there is a defined maximum.

As the description says that the ward "regains" a number of hit points, it's getting back hit points that it had originally, rather than simply getting an overall increase in the current number.  It can't regain hit points it didn't have in the first place.
