Does Action Surge give you a bonus action?  Sorry for this rather short and perhaps lame question.

On my first reading, it sounded like it did, but then I saw another post where someone said it didn't.  Can anyone provide a quick answer or clarity?

Thanks.

The concensus is that it only provides an extra action, but that it's worded strangely. Poor language choice on their part.

Extra Attack works whenever you take the Attack action (emphasis on "action" - meaning not every time you make an attack roll, but when you specifically use your (standard) action to take the action called Attack.)

Action Surge gives you a second action. You can use that action to take the Attack action.

Hence, Extra Attack triggers again. Two attacks with first action, two attacks with second action given by Action Surge, one attack as Bonus Action if you're dual wielding or whatever.

You need to be a level 2 fighter to even get action surge. =p

And yes, extra attack applies whenever you take an attack action. Action Surge gives you a second action which you can use to do another attack action. So your non-bonus-action hits will always double, no matter where you get them from.

Also, keep in mind that actions are not limited to what's in the PHB. So, the ability to do 2 (different or the same) things that would normally take your full action is allowed with Action Surge.
