#1 BestNorthernDope Aug 21, 2015 1:02:57	Greetings internet friends!,   If I pick up the Alert feat and fight in a heavily obscured environment, that would allow me to attack normally (adv. for attacking a blinded opponent cancelled out by being blinded myself), but they attack me with disadvantage? Alert grants the following benefit: "Other creatures don't gain advantage on attack rolls against you as a result of being hidden from you."   Is that correct or did I miss something?   *edit* How does the rogue 14th level ability stack up with this? For reference: "Starting at 14th level, if you are able to hear, you are aware of the location of any hidden or invisible creature within lO feet of you."   Is being aware of the location mechanically the same as being able to see them? Ie. attack with advantage?

#4 jaelis Aug 21, 2015 5:51:54	Even if you have Alert, you grant advantage to someone attacking you if you you simply can't see them.   What it protects you from is a creature hidden behind cover who leans out and attacks you. That whole dynamic is fairly DM dependent, so the benefit from this part of Alert will probably vary from table to table.
#5 Danny_Montanny Aug 21, 2015 5:58:33	Though the wording of Alert implies that it only effects hidden creatures attacking you, I'd say because the advantage on the attack is from you not being able to see the hidden creature that it'd cancel the advantage from any creature attacking you that you can't see (not just hidden creatures). Otherwise it's a paradox. A creature you can hear but not see gets their advantage, but one you can't hear and can't see doesn't get that advantage? Doesn't make much sense. So that's how I'd rule it, creatures attacking you that you can't see no longer recieve advantage on the attack roll. It's not as limiting as the original feat if you want to go straight RAW, but it's the only way it makes sense to me.   Blindsense isn't Blindsight. You know where they are if they're within 10 feet of you, but that doesn't mean you can see them. It'd definitely help in the Fog Cloud because if a creature tries to hide from you, you'd be able to find it a whole lot easier. Without it, you might not even be able to find it to attack it. The same way your enemies won't be able to find you easily when you're in there sneaking around.   The biggest thing that would be an issue is that if you can't see a target you're attacking you have disadvantage on the roll, thus not being able to Sneak Attack, even though them not being able to see you gives you advantage. The tricky part is when there's an adjacent ally. Should you get SA even though you technically have disadvantage, even if it's cancelled out by advantage?

#12 Danny_Montanny Aug 24, 2015 8:09:52	Besides, it'd be the thing that'd make the feat really worth it. +5 to initiative and not being surprised is ok, but really how often do you get attacked by a hidden enemy? Making it so the advantage is canceled by anyone you can't see attacking you is how I'll handle it if it ever comes up.
