Area of Effect

For reference:

Cone You select a cube's point of origin, which lies anywhere on a face of the cubic effect... A cube's point of origin is not included in the cubes area of effect, unless you decide otherwise.

Thunderwave Range: Self (15-foot cube).. Each creature in a 15-foot-cube orginating from you..

So the way I interpret this, the cube is 9 squares and starts on a side of the square that the caster is in.

Either he is on the outside of the cube, and affects 9 squares

 C

123

456

789

Or he is among one of the 9 squares (specificity one edge square) and can make that square not part of the area of effect.

1C2

345

678

As well, the caster could have made the origin square not included while he doesn't occupy it.

 C

1X2

345

678

All of that sound right?

There was another long thread about this very issue. The problem lies in the fact that the cube's "point" of origin is a creature, not a point in space.

To sum up the other thread, ask your DM because the rules aren't clear.

I tweeted Jeremy Crawford and he seemed to indicate that the caster must cast from outside the cube...

Websites need to have drawing boxes so people can just draw stuff instead of image uploads... Because it took me way too long to figure out that text diagram. Hear that, HTML5? You're my only hope.
