I know that you cant stack temporary HP boosts, but for instance, last night I was playing a fiend pact warlock, and have AoA going when I was attacked by a goblin. The goblin hit, doing 8 points of slashing damage, but in turn took 10 points of cold from my shield, killing it. As I had cast AoA as a 2nd level spell, there were 2 points remaining from its temp HP buff, but by killing the mob, I gained 6 (4 from Cha and 2 from spell level).
My question is A. do I now have 6 temp HP and AoA still active B. 2 temp HP and AoA still active or C. 6 temp HP and no AoA buff?
Thanks for your time. |

For example, if a spell grants you 12 temporary hit points when you already have 10, you can have 12 or 10, not 22. (Basic Rules pg. 76)
So in your exemple, you have 2 THP from Armor of Agathys when Dark One's Blessing give you 6 THP, so you decide if you keep the 2 THP or the 6 THP. You will only keep Armor of Agathys's effect that damage creatures hitting you if you keeep the 2 THP though. |
