Armor of Agathys Questions

In the description of Armor of Agathys (PHB, 215), it states that a creature that hits you with a melee attack takes damage while you have "these" hit points, as in the temporary HP granted by the spell.  I have two questions:

1)    Would that damage be dealt only when you have the full amount of HP granted by the spell, or any portion of the HP?  So let's say I take 3 damage from a goblin and have 2 temp HP remaining, will the next melee attacker that hits me also take 5 cold damage seeing as how I still have temp HP granted by the spell?

2)    Let's say I've cast Armor of Agathys, but I then receive temp HP from a different source that now replaces those granted by the spell because they are a higher value.  What does this mean for the cold damage the spell inflicts?  Is the spell now null and void as the temp HP are not the ones granted by the spell?  Does the spell now last until these temp HP are gone?  Or maybe the amount granted by the spell is counted as the "top" portion of the new temp HP total?

Just curious, as this could be rather pertinent for blade pact Warlock I intend on making (a Glaive-Lock).  Any insight is welcome.

Thanks

1. If you have any of the temporary HP granted by the spell, it continues to function.

2. If the temporary HP of the spell are later replaced by temporary HP from another source, the effect of the spell ends.

So does that mean It only deals cold damage according to how much tHP is left from the spell? so if i had 5 thp, then took 3 damage, next time i am attacked, they only take 2 damage? hope that makes sense
