Assassinate:

Starting at 3rd level, you are at your deadliest when you
get the drop on your enemies. You have advantage on
attack rolls against any creature that hasn’t taken a turn
in the combat yet. In addition, any hit you score against
a creature that is surprised is a critical hit.

Death Strike:

Starting at 17th level, you become a master of instant
death. When you attack and hit a creature that is
surprised, it must make a Constitution saving throw
(DC 8 + your Dexterity modifier + your proficiency
bonus). On a failed save, double the damage of your
attack against the creature.

Does this mean you get quadruple damage if you use DS? Both have surprise as a requirement to trigger the features. If you're already double-damaging from Assassinate, do you double it again on a failed DS save?

I do believe that is the case yes.  If they fail their save + surprised you get x4 damage in total between both abilities.

EDIT:  Actually I suddenly have a doubt.  The wording on Death Strike states that the target takes double the damage.  Not that you roll the dice twice and add everything together like the crit rules.  Wouldn't that mean that you would roll everything for the crit as normal then simply double the damage value?  So say 40 damage on your crit would become 80?

Assassinate = Normal damage dice, rolled twice for critical; plus static damage bonuses

Deathstrike = (Normal damage dice, rolled twice for critical; plus static damage bonuses) x2

It's worth noting that if you have access to multiple attacks, you can Assassinate and/or Deathstrike on every hit you land on your turn.
