#1 El_Condoro Feb 03, 2015 0:34:47	Does a ranged attack against a target affected by the Sleep spell suffer disadvantage, advantage or no modifier?   Sleep may cause a target to have the unconscious condition. Attacks (ranged or melee) against unconscious creatures are made with advantage.   However, the unconscious condition says the target falls prone. Ranged attacks against prone targets are made with disadvantage.   So, are ranged attacks against a sleep-affected creature: with advantage from the unconscious condition with disadvantage because they are prone with no modifier because each condition cancels the other out? I know how I would rule it but I am interested in others' opinions.
#2 Undrhil Feb 03, 2015 0:55:09	No modifier.  Advantage from being unconscious is cancelled out by the disadvantage of being prone.
#3 QwertyAzerty Feb 03, 2015 4:57:13	and remember, advantage and disavantage cancel each other, but no matter how many instance of each you have. So for example, if your target is unconscious you have advantage, but disavantage because he his prone so no modifier   Then if you are blind you have disavantage, but you already have disavantage from him being prone, so still no modifier Then an ennemy bard do vicious mockery on you giving you disavantage on your next attack, but still no modifier because avantage and disavantage do not stack, so you cannot say I have 3 instance of disavantage and only one instace of advantage so I shoul dhave disavantage.   This is also true for advantage. A melee character in the darkness spell (he do not have devil sight from warlock, and he do not have any other special ability like blindsight allowing him to see in the dark) attack a other creature without any way to see in the dark neither. The melee character roll 20 on his perception  and know in where the target his (so your attacking at the right place) you have disavantage since your are blind, but attack against the opponent are with advantage since he his also blind, so no modifier.   Then you cast true strike on your self, you already have advantage from your opponent being blind so nothing change, still no modifier Then your cleric cast guidance bolt giving advantage on the next atttack against the opponent, but still no modifier for you     A single instance of disavantage cancel 100000 instance of advantage and vice versa, since you advantage do not stack so 10000 instance of advantage is still only 1 instance of advantage (and same for disavantage)
#4 Timborama Feb 03, 2015 7:56:01	Though note that you can make a ranged attack against an adjacent creature without penalty (assuming no hostile creatures are adjacent to you). So you'd have pure advantage, and if you hit it would also auto-crit (both due to being unconscious!).
