#1 vonklaude Aug 17, 2015 0:17:23	I have an assumption about Bardic Inspiration that I would like to collect views on. That is, I assume that a player the Bard bestows Bardic Inspiration on continues to see dice rolls as normal and therefore can use knowledge of the number they rolled to inform their decision to apply the d6. Some rolls are ordinarily hidden, and those continue to be hidden: that is, the possession of an inspiration dice does not change whether a roll is revealed or hidden.   Not everyone plays that way. Some DMs I've played with choose to say that if you possess an inspiration dice then you aren't allowed to see what you rolled, e.g. you don't get to see your attack roll. So you have to decide to use the dice completely blind.    Rules must be afforded meaning. But I can't really see what the meaning of the wording would be, if it did not to allude to making an informed choice? Why bother allowing that players make their roll prior to deciding to apply inspiration, if the intent is that such rolls are always hidden?
#2 Imaculata Aug 17, 2015 0:50:15	Personally, after watching several episodes of "Critical Role" I think it works just fine to apply the bonus after seeing what you've rolled. I don't see why anything would need to be kept hidden.

In this game no dice rolls are hidden per the rules. some DMs like to hide them but this does not mean they are playing per the rules as written. They are perfectly welcome to change any the rules of the game to suit them but that is a choice they make and not implicit in the rules.   As written the player who has inspiration can see the roll but announce before the final result is know that they choose to use inspiration.
