Hello

Ive just recently been introduced to role playing and i started with pathfinder so i never played D&D 1,2,3,4e, all i have is the players guide book of 5e and ive read threw most of it, and it seems SO much simpler then pathfinder, am i right to assume this? I only played one game of pathfinder so far and one of D&D 5e, but pathfinder seemed more strucktured and confusing lol.

I want to start a dwarf paladin but it seems like im missing some things, like do i still need 13+ cha to cast spells and It seems I dont get extra spell slots with more charisma anymore? at least i cant find it in the book anywhere. Also if i take 2 levels in paladin then multi class into wizard can my wizard wear heavy armor and use martial weapons and have the 2nd level feats with no penalty?

Yes, 5e is much simpler than PF.

A moderate to high charisma is preferred on Paladins, but is not required for casting. It will give them a higher Spell Save Difficulty that opponents must overcome to resist their spells and Channel Divinity, grants additional uses of Divine Sense and Cleansing Touch (level 1 and 14), augments their Aura of Protection (level 6), and allows them to prepare additional spells. It also increases the attack bonus for an Oath of Devotion paladin's "Sacred Weapon" feature.  It does not grant additional spell slots.

You can wear heavy armor and wield martial weapons if you start as a paladin, multiclass as a wizard later, and still cast all spells normally. You must have a minimum of 13 Strength, Charisma, and Intelligence to build this multiclass.

It's best to approach any new edition as a completely new game so as to avoid making assumptions about which things have carried over or were done away with.

Pathfinder is largely based on the 3.5 Edition rules of D&D, but is published by a different company. It has also been out for a few years now.

The 3.5 rules for D&D are only loosely similar to the rules for 5th Edition D&D.

5th Edition D&D was a complete overhaul of the rules from the ground up - everything from classes to basic mechanics, is still a fairly new game, and one of the purposes of the new edition was specifically to simplify the rules and make everything less complicated.

alright so what will happen to my spell slots once I start a mage after 2 paladin levels, is it based on character level so I would still get all the slots of a level 3 at 2 paladin / 1 mage? Did I read it right that I can wear full heavy armor, shield, sword and cast mage spells or do I need a free hand still, and can I still use smite along with the 2 paladin spells you get at level 2?

The free hand is not required for your paladin spells if you have your holy symbol emblazoned on your shield.

Wizard spells are a different story. The war caster feat allows you to cast spells with a somatic component without a free hand. Many DMs also do not enforce the rule.

Page 164 of the PHB discusses how many spell slots you get. There's no distinction between spell slots for different classes.

Are all Paladin spells Somatic+Material? Because Somatic-only spells can't be cast without a free hand, even if you have your holy emblem on your shield. See also: https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/rules-spellcasting
